Mystery Bug
By Drew | August 4, 2008
It is back in the office time and that meant cleaning things up. So it was a very busy day for me. But when I got home Allison and I took Eva to the supermarket to get some groceries for the week. Allison is going to try and make Rachel Ray’s falafel burgers this week. That should be tasty. She got a falafel at the Newport Folk Festival yesterday and I tried some. It was tasty, so I am looking forward to the recipe.
On our way to the supermarket Allison saw this dead bug on the driveway. It is not a Cicada, I don’t think. When we got home I went up and got the macro lens to shoot this bug. The thing is huge.
Tonight we caught up on the season premiere of Eureka. Oh I have quite a few tv reviews to work on. Must find the time.
The Read To Me, Dad Baby Sherpa Diaper Backpack contest is in full swing. Plenty of easy chances to enter.

That there little fella is a Cicada…very vocal little species, we went into a state park last year about this time and it was “mating” season and they were everywhere….and they are quite loud too.

Christie,
Thanks for the info. There were a ton of Cicadas on the Cape this summer and they didn’t look like this one so that is why I was confused. I hadn’t realized the variety of the species.

Thanks Chica,
I probably should have figured out that it was a cicada. Not many giant bugs out this way.

The ones on the cape are brood XIV. Hubby looked it up a few weeks ago. Apparently different parts of the country have different types.

Andrea,
That Neil and his facts. Man he is resourceful. Thanks. So this is pretty much no longer a mystery.
