A Flat End to the Day

A Flat End of the Day
Photo-A-Day #2068

On the way home from work I was cruising along 95 through Rhode Island and something the size of a pregnant golf ball bounced right in my way. I hit it. HARD. Everything seemed okay for a little bit and then as I slowed down I felt some major vibration. I had a flat. I pulled off the highway. Luckily I was able to get to a regular street, pull over off the road and get to work changing the flat.

Sure, I tried to change it first. I went to the trunk and had to pull out snowshoes, kayak paddles, life vests, in-line skates, A remote control van for which I cannot find the battery charger and various other stuff. Luckily again when I got to the bottom of that there was an actual pristine spare tire. 8 years in this car and this was the first flat. Pretty lucky in that respect.

I attempted to change the tire myself but the jack and the tire iron could have been tinker toys and I would have had more luck. I couldn’t move those lugnuts at all. However, I remembered that I have Triple AAA and what’s the point of paying for it every year without actually using it. Triple AAA got to me within 40 minutes and had me on my way in under 3. Well worth it.

I was going to use a photo that I took by the side of the road with the car but instead I took this silly one of me in my new glasses. These are from Just Eyewear. I’ll be doing a review on them soon but after I’ve worn them for a while. I like them so far. what do you think of them? Do they fit me?

  1. I like the glasses! It have “get new glasses” on my to do list for 2011. Looking forward to the review, since we no longer have vision insurance.

Sorry about the flat. When my dad taught me to drive he also taught me how to change a flat. But every time I have actually had a flat, I always had someone else available to do it for me!

Hope it is fixable and you don’t have to pay for a new tire. I had to buy a new tire on Friday because we had a nail in the sidewall.

    1. Alli,

I bought roadside hazard insurance on the tire because I commute so much. I’m just looking for the paperwork. It seems that the one thing you always need is the one thing you didn’t file properly. I hope it is in the car.

  2. I rock at changing tires. Sometimes I just swap them in my driveway for practice. You and Allison should come over for one of our pit crew nights. We have all these challenges to see who and change their oil the fastest, swap out the tires, wash the windshield etc.

It is pretty fun alhtough I do end up racing the clock a lot as my friends often have plans
