Eva knows her alphabet pretty well in uppercase. She’s just getting better and better with lowercase and that is something that her class will be focusing on this year in school, mixed case. I like that for each of the minigames give the player the option of looking for letters in mixed case or just lowercase or just uppercase. This is a good feature of the app. There are five little minigames in the app that focus on identifying letters, recognizing letter sounds and more. There is even a feature of progress tracking for parents to see how their kids are doing.
Overall this is a decent app with a fast pace to keep kids interested. Kids earn stickers/souvenirs from their round the world adventures. Eva had gone and added stickers to all the locations on the map. She must have done this during our trip to New Hampshire.

ARLINGTON, VA, August 16, 2012 – PBS KIDS has released its newest educational app, SUPER WHY! ABC Adventures: Alphabet for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Designed for kids ages 3 to 6, the new app, now available in the App Store, is the fourth app based on SUPER WHY!, the award-winning hit preschool series from Out of the Blue Enterprises, which helps kids build critical literacy skills through storybook adventures. SUPER WHY! ABC Adventures: Alphabet builds on PBS KIDS’ existing SUPER WHY! app collection, with a comprehensive curriculum featuring over 400 words and opportunities to practice recognizing sounds and upper- and lowercase letters.

In this new app, kids join their favorite SUPER WHY! characters for an around-the-world alphabet adventure, all while playing a comprehensive and engaging collection of five mini-games.

Each mini-game in the new SUPER WHY! app is hosted by a different “Super Reader.” Children are introduced to alphabet letters, common letter sounds and visuals themed to different places around the world in fun, interactive ways that fully leverage the capabilities of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

- Rewards: Each time players successfully complete a mini-game, they earn a special “Around the World”-themed souvenir sticker that is collected in their “Map of the World.” From here, users can decorate around-the-world themed backgrounds with the souvenirs they’ve earned, as well as save each creation to the device.
- Music Videos: Users can access a collection of alphabet-themed music videos from SUPER WHY! to gain further exposure to the alphabet.
- Progress Tracking: A progress tracking area allows parents to see how their children are performing on two of the mini-games and identifies which letters or common letter sounds they still need to practice.
