Last night Allison and I stayed up, bleary-eyed, to watch the newest installment in Alton’s Brown’s culinary questing. This time he’s taken off the motorcycle helmet, donned a Hawaiian shirt and set sail in the Caribbean. Alton’s new show is called Feasting on Waves. In the show Alton and his team are aboard two boats and visiting the islands in the Caribbean. The first episode started at Saint Kitts and a storm forced the team to go to Saint Barts instead of their intended destination.

I know that the show is pretty frenetic and the camera angles are wacky plus the boom mic guy is in almost every shot, but I love it. I love the rawness of the show. I love how Alton interacts with all the people that he meets. I like that he has a handheld camera with him all the time too.

In this episode we see Alton learn how to make Bush Tea, visit the restaurant that inspired “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and have a fricasseed lobster dish. I’m excited about watching this show because I eat up everything (pun intended) that Alton produces. And I’m happy to hear that he’s signed on for 3 more years at Food Network.

Alton Brown’s New Adventure

I am an Alton Brown Junkie. I admit it and am very very proud of it. Alton is every cooking geek’s aspiration. I watch his show and absorb every word like a mantra. For example I find myself loathing uni-taskers for some reason. I can’t look at a cow without wondering if Alton is going to pop up and flip up a flank and show me which cuts come from which parts. And I make sure that I have the latest AB Gear.

Allison and I met Alton Brown once. We went to a talk he was giving at the Burlington, MA Barnes and Noble. He was promoting his book Gear for your Kitchen. Alton talked for over an hour and then stood there and greeted every hungry fan for at least 3-5 minutes each. We talked about books we were reading, motorcycles and personal assistants. Alton was a super nice guy and as animated and knowledgeable as he is on his show Good Eats.

I am in a contest to win a set of Feasting On Asphalt DVD’s. Feasting on Asphalt was a 4 our special that starred Alton Brown and his friends on a cross country motorcycle and eating tour of America. I travel all the time and love to find out of the way places to eat. This premise of this show was music to my ears.

Unfortunately I ended up messing up the taping of this series each week and finally watched it during a 4 hour marathon session. Well, now there is a DVD set and I want one. Christine is giving one away if I get the highest number of votes. Voting ends on Wednesday at 7:00pm EST. And you may vote once a day until then. I am neck and neck with another competitor and would really like to win this. The prize also comes with a View Master.

I heard also that there is going to be a Feasting on Asphalt 2 (I don’t know when it premieres yet, but once I do I will let everyone know.) But I did find the Feasting on Asphalt 2 blog. And I would love to take that trip through season 1 once more time before I see the next road trip.

I thought I would have the contest sewn up because I have a lot of friends at work who would be voting for me, but since the company has 2 IP addresses only 2 people of the 20 could place votes. Photo-A-Day #766 05/14/07

And this is for something very cool. You see, Christine recently held her first ever blog contest. It was called One For Me, One For You and in it she asked participants to blog about which of the three items that Christine should buy, the choices were

1. The Odd Couple: The Complete First Season – Not really interested in this DVD set so it was not my choice.

2. The Complete Peanuts 1950-1954 Boxed Set [BOX SET] – I already own this. And will be picking up each set as it comes out.

3. Alton Brown’s “Feasting On Asphalt” – This was my choice. I really like Alton Brown and would love to have the whole series on DVD. There are some great behind the scenes moments that I think I will really like.

I just so happen to be in Atlanta Georgia, this is Alton Country and I take that as a sign that you should vote for me to win this contest. Time again to vote for me…

Christine at The Passionate Ailurophile is running a blog contest. She is running a contest where you could win one of 3 prizes. And two out of the three prizes I have an interest in, however I have one of the prizes and so I will blog about why I want one of the prizes. The prizes are:
1. Alton Brown’s “Feasting On Asphalt”
2. The Complete Peanuts 1950-1954 Boxed Set
3. The Odd Couple: The Complete First Season

I want the copy of Alton Brown’s Feasting on Asphalt. I remember hearing about this 4 part special and being very excited to tape it and watch it. I ran into many snafus along the way and finally ended up watching the special one Saturday afternoon with Allison. We are huge AB fans and even have some AB gear, like the Salt Cellar, the measuring containers and many of his books, some are signed because we met AB in real life. We are fans of his show Good Eats and watch it each night as we have dinner. We will also watch Iron Chef America for the AB commentary. But the best thing is that we have signed copies of his books because we met him at a book signing and got to talk with him for a good 5 minutes.

the prize that Christine is giving away includes all four episodes of Feasting on Asphalt, plus a bonus disc with more commentary by Alton. And since we cannot get enough Alton I need to have this to listen to the great commentary and see the bonus materials with the behind the scenes stuff.

I travel all over the country and while on the road I try to get off the beaten path and try some of the local places to eat, I live by some of the Feasting on Asphalt rules as much as possible. No Food Chains, stick to the byways and not the major highways. I myself have had some fantastic meals on the road and want to experience great road food like Alton does. No sure if I would try the brain sandwich however.

Contest: One for Me, One for You…

Today Allison and I went to IKEA and picked up our new bed. We got the Queen Size NORESUND. That was thanks to Uncle Tom, Thank you. We met up with Dan and Marcia and cruised through the store, had some lunch there and picked up a few other things for the house. We got the mirror that goes with the bed frame and a hanging thing that also goes with the bed frame (Don’t ask me what it is exactly but it goes on the wall and has three canvas holders.) We also picked up a cat pillow for the boys and some cool little glass dishes for cooking (To hold small amounts of spices and whatnot, just like Alton)

Speaking of Alton, we’ve finally gotten the time to sit and watch Feasting on Asphalt and we both love it so much. I can watch Alton’s shows all the time, you learn so much and he inspires us to learn more about cooking and the history of food. We are almost finished watching and wish that there were more than 4 shows.

Marcia and Dan came home with us and we made a great dinner with them and with my parents. So I took advantage of the beautiful weather and grilled the chops. Allison made homemade apple sauce as well as an apple/cranberry crisp with the mix we picked up yesterday. Dinner was fantastic. It was nice to have both sets of parents around for dinner.
