I’m a little behind on the TV shows. However I will catch up in this post. There may be spoilers. The last one that I needed to write about was Eureka. The last episode of Eureka was Show me the Mummy.

Basically the GD building has a crypt that was moved from Egypt and will be opened under completely controlled conditions by a sensationalist anthropologist/reality TV documentary filmmaker. That guy and his camerawoman get killed off pretty quickly by ‘the curse’ of the mummy. Except it isn’t a curse, it is a plague of bugs that gestate within a human host completely draining them of fluids. More water and warmer water they gestate faster, cold water they die.

Carter investigates this and along the way Fargo is infected with the plague but he is frozen by Allison and Carter to kill the bugs. It works and now Carter needs to round up the bugs and freeze them as well. Luckily Carter’s sister has composed music for yoga that attracts the swarm. So carter uses that to lure the swarm into Vincent’s sub zero freezer to kill them all.

So that was basically what the episode was about, what I liked was Carter and Henry working on something together, the team pulling through even though Stark was gone(but not really for this episode, more later.) I liked that Fargo had taken Stark’s death so hard, he looked up to Stark no matter how much Stark put him down. His memorial hallway idea and all the details in the planning were cute. Carter gives Allison the logic diamond that Stark got her. And Stark embedded a hologram on it that would show up under certain light conditions, this made Allison see Stark over and over. For some reason I see that logic diamond being put into a Stark Android in a future episode. Other than that Eva Thorn tried to recruit Henry again but that isn’t going to happen so she turns to Zane who will help her open a special puzzle. I wonder what Thorn is looking for.

Bones:

Last night brought us the return of Bones with a two hour premiere called Yanks in the UK. Bones was speaking at Oxford and Booth at Scotland Yard. Over all the two hours was entertaining. I was glad to see both Booth and Bones back on TV. They addressed the Zack Addy situation briefly at the beginning of the episode. I’m not sure if they will talk much more on that at all. While much of the action in the first hour revolved around a murder of a rich man’s daughter and how much Booth hated England because he is “not adaptable”. It did move along some stories that we’ve been waiting on. In that first hour we see the arrival of Angela’s husband and he refuses to give Angela a divorce because he still loves her. Hodgins tries to fight this man and is subsequently tossed into a garbage truck. Sweets tried to step in to help but falls on his face, literally. Eventually Grayson (Angela’s husband) grants the divorce but in the second hour Angela and Hodgins screw up their relationship and break up. What the hell! Both Allison and I were pissed at that. I think it was poorly written and a weak break up.

In other areas of the show we see a British version of Booth and Bones and Booth even points this out to Bones. There is a female version of Booth and a sorta male version of Bones but with much more personality. The male version is a professor at Oxford who is a bit of a player and attempts to seduce Bones. She decides against it based on Booth’s recommendation. But it looks like if she talked to the Scotland Yard cop who was the female Booth she probably would have taken the professor up on his offer. But she never gets the chance because the professor is killed in the second hour of the show which keeps Booth and Bones in England for the second hour.

Meanwhile back at the Jeffersonian Cam sleeps with Angela’s ex-husband this creates tension between Angela and Cam, Hodgins and Cam and Sweets has to help put things right. He helps them out with their relationship but then that is where we get the weak break up of Hodgins and Angela complete with major melodrama. I’m soured on characters ending up lovelorn and unhappy. The break up was stupid. But I am happy that Bones is back on TV.

Sons of Anarchy:

So last night FX had a premiere of a new show called Sons of Anarchy. The show centers around a young man who is now a new father and also part of a brutal motorcycle club (gang) in a small rural town. The MC runs everything in the area and will fight to protect what is theirs. This episode we are introduced to Jax, he is the main character around whom the show will mostly be centered. Jax’s father was part of the MC before he died so now it is Jax and his mom Gemma Teller Morrow played by Katy Sagal and his stepfather and current MC president, Clarance ‘Clay’ Morrow, played by Ron Perlman. Jax’s ex-wife is pregnant and she is also a junkie. There are other members of the MC but so far no stand outs except for the guy who was in the last episodes of In Plain Sight.

In the episode a rival gang blows up one of the storage houses for the MC’s gun running operation. In that attack they kill two illegal aliens steal a bunch of guns and take off. The guns were to go to a gang in another area and so Clay needs to get them back or get other guns. The S.O.A. runs the town, they have paid off everyone from the sheriff to the fire chief. This needs to be kept quiet so ATF and other government agencies don’t start sniffing around.

In Jax’s personal life his ex-wife is a junkie, she overdoses and this forces his son to be born 10 week premature with a congenital heart defect and a torn stomach. Jax must deal with this as he sorts through his old baby things in a storage locker. In the storage locker he finds a manuscript for a novel written by his father. His father didn’t want the MC life for his son. You sort of notice through the episode that Jax’s heart is not in it.

The MC discovered where the rival MC is hiding the guns, they make a raid on the place to get the guns back. They are going to blow the place up but before they get the chance some of the rival MC members come to the facility. The S.O.A. is forced to deal with this in a very brutal way, killing the rival members and adding their bodies to the building for the big fire. In this exchange Jax is put into the situation to kill in cold blood, he’s not got the stomach for it which at least makes him sort of endearing and someone I could watch again.

The show is very violent, that is why it is on so late but it is okay so far. I may watch it again or DVR it when we get a DVR. The violence is not reserved for the men on the show too. Katy Sagal is also a force to be reckoned with. She makes a visit to Jax’s ex-wife in the hospital, tells her she will never see her son and then practically forces the needle of drugs in her arm so she can overdose. Very tough to watch Katy Sagal in that role.

The Fall season is upon us and many shows will be returning this month. Some will make it and some won’t I am looking forward to what is to come.

Spoilers as always

Last night’s episode of Eureka was a time loop/travel/anomaly type episode. Carter was the only one who was effected by the time loop. The day started normally, it was the day of the wedding of Allison and Stark. This was their second go round and the wedding had all the trimmings. Most of the major players were invited to the wedding including Henry as the minister. I should have known that the minister would be one of the main characters.

Carter’s day started fairly typically with a shower, cutting himself shaving and then spending some time with Zoe. Carter’s sister Lexxie arrives in Eureka to help put her life in order. She also arrives with cats, two of them and one apparently has the spirit of their dead grandmother in it. Lexxie is a total opposite of Carter. She is a free spirit, believes in astrology but she is also his sister and they have a history. They’re family.

Carter then has to go to GD to help Allison with some redactions. It is Thorn who has now cut 12 more people from GD in an effort to keep Allison busy on her wedding day. Carter takes a few of them and Allison takes a few of them. One of the people that Carter needs to redact is a guy named Leo but when he goes down to Leo’s office he is bathed in a blue light, partially blinded too and so he stumbles out and says he will come back the next day.

Carter heads to the wedding, his job is to walk Allison down the aisle… awkward. I can’t seem to remember is carter has memories from the alternate timeline, I know Henry does and I was looking for something in his eyes when he said “If anyone knows why these two should not be married, speak no or forever hold your peace.” I didn’t get time to noticed because suddenly there is some weird light int he sky and Carter is back in his shower. The day starts over.

So now I am thinking that this is right out of groundhog day were Carter will need to get the day right and win Allison in order for it to stop repeating. However this is Eureka and things are rarely that simple. Carter goes about the day trying to anticipate what he should do differently to make this stop. He talks to Stark and Fargo and they blow him off. Then he talks to his sister in Cafe Diem and she tells him to kiss Allison and things will work out fine because of their chemistry. This doesn’t go well. And Carter loops back again.

I can’t remember how many times he repeats the day, I should have kept notes but many of the themes were things that he said to Allison and things Allison said to him especially, “Things will work out as they should.” This was very telling in the grand scheme of things.

Along the way to figuring things out Carter pulls a gun on Fargo and has him destroy the new atomic clock that will make Eureka the new standard for time. Since Carter was involved in a time loop he figured it was this machine. Then another time around he thought that Thorn was doing something and making time reset, he even tried to take her back with him. I was fully expecting Carter and Thorn to end up in the shower together, for the sheer humor of it.

There was a Dr. Who reference many times by Vincent in Cafe Diem, I’ve never watched that show but I wonder if it had some specific significance. Carter learned many things each time through and it is interesting how his actions each time made small changes in what was happening. He also learned more about his sister, who is pregnant, and through multiple times through the time loop he learns to be more self aware and compassionate. So I still thought that Carter personally had to make something right with someone.

I also thought that all this time jumping would make Carter remember the alternate timeline. The first jump with all the images flashing made me think that he was remembering what had happened to him. I think that Henry is still the only one who remembers the other timeline. I really wish Carter would remember.

Carter finally figures out that Leo is the one behind the time loop. Carter learns that because he was coated in pure indigo light he was unaffected with time going in reverse (I think that is how Leo explained the anomaly). Carter attempts to help Leo fix the mess but find that he loops back again. So the next time he is taught a specific formula or equation so that Stark would believe and help him. Time cannot loop forever though and each time back through Carter gets more and more banged up. And on one jump Leo is fried to a crisp.

So the final loop jump Carter must enlist the help of Stark, Fargo, their atomic clock and some luck. Carter proves that the time loop is happening by reciting the equation. Fargo and Stark set up for a sync with the atomic clock. However the remote sync doesn’t work. So Stark volunteers to set things right. Fargo also volunteered in a very heroic gesture. With less than 60 seconds to go Stark tells Carter to give Allison the necklace and not to forget to give it to her. He then couples the two devices and time is set right once again. Fargo and Carter start to celebrate but then realize that Stark is frozen in time and then disintegrates. Stark performing a selfless act, remarkable.

So it is no up to Carter to tell Allison the news of Stark’s death. Will this make things harder or easier for Carter and Allison to finally become the couple that they should be? Is Stark really gone? Anything can happen in Eureka.

Spoilers ahead in my Review/Recap.

Exploding Mucus, Exploding fake dogs and a steamy night in Eureka. That is what we find in the season 3′s 3rd episode. It is time for the annual Best in Show dog show in Eureka and all the mutts are out and about. However this is not an ordinary dog show. The dogs in the show are actually robots, very lifelike robots and the top dog (most lifelike) can win the prestige of Best in Show. That honor has gone to Fifi for two years running. However Fifi explodes early on in the show. Her owner suspects foul play. Carter just blows this off. He thinks that playing with robot dogs is frivolous.

Carter has a real case to look into, a possible burglary at a scientist’s home. This scientist is creating synthetic mucus to help fight disease. But this just basically sets up a humorous situation where Carter ends up covered in bright green foamy mucus. He gets covered in the stuff because of a localized earthquake that shook the lab and only Carter felt it. That is the part I don’t believe because if something is shaking the lab and Jo and the Dr. went upstairs then they should have felt it too. But this just sets things up for the group not to believe Carter. I wish they would learn.

Some sub plots of the show. The wedding plans are moving along with Allison and Stark. Jo likes weddings and wants to help Allison pick out a dress. Looks like tailors and seamstresses are out of jobs in Eureka. Zoe is taking an advanced Physics course. Each of these pieces of information come into play throughout the episode.

The episode should have been titled pressure because I think the word pressure and the word stress was used more times than should have been allowed in one episode. Of course when you are talking about diamonds, and magma you are going to talk pressure but then it mirrors the pressures that everyone in town is feeling. Zoe’s feeling the pressure of doing well in her new class and impressing her dad. Allison is feeling the pressure of the wedding and maybe feeling a little trapped (she as trapped in that wedding dress). Fargo felt the pressure to win and he cheated by using a real dog in the fake dog contest.

The one person that should be under the most stress should be Carter. He lived the entire parallel life with Allison but had that knowledge wiped away by Henry however I’m pretty sure he will slowly remember that whole other life. Carter loves Allison and it has to be killing him that she is with Stark and is getting married to him again.

Carter is pretty much the one guy in the town who acts without pretense. He can handle the pressure and that is probably why he is the sheriff.

I’ve noticed something with Eureka that you probably have too but whatever problem is going on that needs to be fixed usually gets fixed by Carter who sees everything that is going on around him and pulls together the big picture idea. In this episode we have a crazy geologist who is looking for a magma pocket but that is impossible because there are no fault lines in Eureka. However there is someone who is creating “logic” diamonds using sound waves. Henry helps Zoe with her homework by using a sound wave device that melts a penny. Apparently the build up of the pressure from the sound waves, intensified by the diamonds ends up melting rock and creating magma under Eureka.

Yes it is convenient that all these things are happening that just so happen to be the perfect combination to save the entire town. I know that but it is what makes Eureka so fun as a show. You know that Carter is going to solve the problem with the help of everyone else who only sees a small part of that big picture.

I really liked the guest star role that Alan Ruck played. It is great to see him on TV again. I loved him on Spin City and of course as Cameron in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

I’m still not convinced that there is something more sinister we will be seeing from Henry this season. I think that Horn is going to sink her teeth into him and he will end up doing something wrong again. The scenes between he and Carter always feel full of tension from Henry. Henry still knows that whole parallel life and still blamed Carter for the death of his wife. That is something he just won’t be letting go of anytime soon.

All in all a decent episode.

Spoilers: Beware.

I know that Hulu.com is US only. There is nothing I can do about it. In fact I was banging my head against the wall last week in London when I couldn’t watch the premiere of Eureka.

So this was episode #2 for season 3. I enjoyed this episode very much especially with all the liberties they took in making a 12,000 acre biosphere beneath Eureka. I also loved that Fargo hacked the system to watch the people in the biosphere like he was watching a reality show.

Some good things came about in this episode like the return of Henry to Eureka. I was wondering how long they would keep him in prison, seems like he got out much faster than Earl did on My Name is Earl. That is a good thing because Henry, Carter and Stark are the money team as Zane put it. They are the ones who get things done in Eureka.

Still no Taggart, is he still on the show? Does anyone know?

So it seems that “The Fixer” is much smarter than we thought, because she had everyone running all over the place and she made a bunch of demands on Jo then she rescinded them, all except for the museum. She wanted the old movies from the museum. Yeah, she is good at manipulating people, very good. Interesting to see what will happen with that storyline this season. I wonder what secret she is looking for.

After I watch the show I always read the TV Squad recap. The writers for TV Squad are pretty detailed and usually come up with some great observations. Then if there aren’t many I’ll read the comments because they make me laugh. People are so irked over the blatant product placement in the show. Someone even wrote, that seeing that Degree ad took me right out of the show. Really? That is funny. The other day on Psych there was an over the top blatant ad for Dunkin Donuts, it made me laugh but didn’t take me out of the show. I just love how pretentious people get about their sci-fi. Seriously, Eureka is poking fun at Sci-Fi and I’m loving it.

It is great to see Eureka back. We are quickly caught up on what happened last season and then we jump right into the new season. Henry is in jail, GD is in hot water and Carter is not happy that Zoe wants a job at Cafe Diem. Jo and Zane are still together and Allison is contemplating the proposal she got from Nathan. The only person that I missed hearing about was Taggart. I certainly hope he is still around.

I only watched this the other night on Hulu because Sci-Fi on our cable is screwed up and the screen jumps. Thank goodness for Hulu.com. And I am a week behind on my Eureka watching. I’ll have to watch last night’s episode soon.

There was a twofold crisis this week. First GD has been eating up money like crazy so the government has sent in a corporate “Fixer” this woman is going to make things run more efficiently. However we see at the end that she may have her own agenda as well. Looks like the “Fixer” will be around for a while.

The other crisis was a rogue drone that has become way too smart. There is a guy at GD who makes drones and has for years. His drones always fail because of the restrictions that are placed on them for the testing parameters. His wife had had enough so she modified a drone to be a “super” drone. That drone, “Martha” became self aware and also a petulant teenager. So of course the drone bonds with Zoe.

In the end Carter, Stark, Allison and even Fargo band together to save the day. It is also a show of strength and solidarity against “The Fixer”. Also at the end Carter plays some chess with Henry (in prison) and Henry says something that is a bit foreboding about some things cannot be forgiven. He still holds a deep grudge against Carter.

It looks like the season is going to be a good one and I look forward to more episodes.
