Being a so called photographer I love to take photos and share them with people. For the most part I share my photos online but there are occasions when I want to share them with the offline world as well. For example, this past week Allison and I sent out our Christmas cards. We took some great photos of Eva in her Christmas Outfit and then had them made up through a very well known camera maker’s website. I looked all over for a great price for them and we made our decision and bought them.
Now, I am kicking myself for not knowing about CardsDirect when we made our card purchase decision.
With Eva in our life each year we are going to be making and sending out photo cards to friends and family. For one thing she is adorable and so cute to photograph and for another friends and family really like to see how much she has grown. But what can I say we are new parents and so we haven’t done the photo card thing that much so we didn’t look around too much. We went with what we knew. Well, now I know of CardsDirect.
After looking at the CardsDirect website and poking around the area where they have some great deals on holiday photo cards I know where we are gonna look for next year’s card. For the heck of it, I started to put together a card to see how easy it was to do. Man, was it easy! What struck me about this interface was that you can do everything for your selected card on one screen rather than having to move backwards and forwards from screen to screen like other sites.
On the one screen I can choose the quantity and update the price. We are in need of about 100 cards each year so I took the default which was for 100 cards and the price is great at $119.00. That is little over $1.00 a card. Next I could upload an image. When you upload the file you are presented with many different ways to get your image onto your card as well as suggestions for formatting the image for best output.
You can select a verse to add to your card and there are many of them to choose from. You also get up to 4 lines of custom text for the inside of your card, for free. I don’t know of other sites that give me such a wide selection of verse text as well as the ability to enter custom text to my cards. I can also add a logo to my cards. I know a bunch of bloggers who now send out Christmas cards to their readers. I have a great logo for The Wired Kayaker, I sense some W.K. Christmas cards next year.
Oh and you can also get your return address printed on the coordinating envelopes that you get with your custom photo cards. The site is simplicity itself in execution. As I customized my card I could preview it, and watch the price change. It didn’t change, even though I customized the heck out of it, all things I customized were included in the price. Here is an example of one of the cards that CardsDirect has available as an option.

CardsDirect even has a blog where they announce the latest holiday photo card designs. I like when companies maintain a blog, it is a great way to keep up on the latest in new products as well as get ideas on how to use the products in creative ways. Sure it is a marketing tool but done right it can be engaging to the reader and helpful to the customer. Great job CardsDirect!

That is one of the most beautiful cards I have ever seen. You have designed it beautifully, the pure colors and composition: how much more perfect can it get?
I only wish I designed that particular card. However I did not, that isn’t Eva. Eva is cuter. :-)
