Expanding Young Minds Through Entertainment #StreamTeam

Every year you hear about how kids in the Summer months begin to lose some of their learning from the previous school year. In our house we are having the kids each do writing exercises to improve their handwriting and a lot of reading. Eva has taken to reading on her own and she is unstoppable. She’s read a ton of books already and has blown through a stack of books that I received for review. Andrew, seeing that his sister gets to stay up a little later because she is reading has been exploring his own bookshelf library. So, on that front they are doing well.

But what about something new? Are they learning new things? Yes, they are when we go on fun adventures, but that isn’t as often as we’d like. So, to supplement that we are looking at the Netflix Passport and you can download your own by clicking the image below.

With this passport you have some great suggestions for educational entertainment for the kids during the Summer months. The passport includes suggestions for shows with a global view, some focused on Arctic Discovery and Latin influences as well as discovering information about dinosaurs. I look forward to watching many of these suggestions especially Tales by Light, with the kids. This is the most interesting to me because it is about photography in far off places. That really excites me and I think it will be interesting to the kids, too.

Netflix is also pushing the boundaries of their technology. So, once the kids have gotten some educational entertainment they can get some cartoon entertainment with a couple of interactive programs including Puss in Book: An Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile. We watched the Puss in Book episode on the TV which gave no interaction options. It was entertaining but it was even more entertaining to use our iPad to get the full interactive experience. We’ll have to check out the Buddy Thunderstruck one, too.

As far as shows for moms and dads, there have been a bunch of new releases lately. I’ve checked out shows like The Ranch Season 3, Glow Season 1, Bloodline Season 3 and I recently started watching House of Cards and am now at the latest season which only recently was released. I really enjoyed GLOW. This new series is about the formation of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in the 80’s. The show is gloriously 80’s through and through down to the training montage done to a Stan Bush song, “Dare”. I liked what they did with the first season and found it even more entertaining then I ever found GLOW itself, and I did watch it when I was a kid.

There are new series and films and comedy specials being released each week. Actually, there is a series being launched on July 4th called The Standups that I am looking forward to watching. There is much more to look forward to in the coming weeks and months. I’ll be there to tell you more about it as a member of the Netflix Stream Team.
