If you want to save money you can do many household projects yourself. For instance if you were trying to sell your home you might want to make some improvements around the place. But it you wanted to make sure you got the most money possible you are going to have to do some projects yourself. For instance, painting.

Painting your home gives it a nice fresh new look. You would never know how dirty and dingy your walls and ceilings were until you apply some new paint. Allison and I have been making many new improvements around our place and while we are doing a lot of it ourself we owe the bulk of the work around here to my father. He can do anything with remodeling, tools and paint. So we are very lucky.

You don’t have my Dad to help you out but you can learn much from DoItYourself.com. This website is a resource for many Do It Yourself projects. There you can learn tricks and techniques on any of their 100s of forums.

People helping people is what DoItYourself.com is about and helping each other gain knowledge. We all know that “knowledge is power”. Of course I am a child of the 80s so I like “knowing is half the battle”, myself. But that adage is true, knowledge is power.

One time I tried a painting project out of the supervision of my Dad and I used a very nice and expensive brush with oil based paint. Guess how I washed it? Yeah, if you are laughing right now you know I tried washing it in the sink with water. No, no, no my friend oil based paint brushes must be cleaned with paint thinner and things like that. Of course I could have asked my Dad for help on the project but I was young and too stubborn or I wanted to surprise him. Well he was surprised with a ruined paintbrush.

Had I gone to DoItYourself.com and bought the “DoItYourself” DVD I probably would have saved myself some money and embarrassment over that mistake. I could also have searched through the open free community and their hundreds of articles and forums to find out about the proper painting techniques.

Oh I need that site. Amy replaced my kitchen faucet. But I didn’t like the stuff in that hole in the sink part on the bottom of the sink. So a friend replaced those and used putty stuff. The next day I washed dishes and the whole hole in the sink came apart. So we had to replace pipes. Then the pipes fell apart. Then the plumber came.

Luckily the plumber had just married the friend of a woman I teach with so I didn’t have to pay a zillion dollars.

Next project is wallpaper and paint and floors upstairs in this 105 year old house. Wish me luck. Send cash.

“Wish me luck. Send cash.” Hilarious. You totally crack me up.

Your DIY project sounds like what mine would have been if I did any plumbing myself, since I have no clue what to do. My Dad and I see things like this. Me watching him type is like him watching me pound nails.

It is very good to be friends with a plumber.

I remember that painting project. I’m almost positive that there was no Do it yourself. com, back then. But I’m glad you learned from that.

I learned much over the years. And I had my own database of knowledge to help me out as well.
