At Red Robin – AKA Man Date

At Red Robin - AKA Man-Date
Photo-A-Day #1341

Apparently when your wife goes out of town and you spend the night hanging out with your buddy it’s called a “man date” (See Below). Tonight I went and hung out with my buddy Mike and we went to Red Robin for dinner and then we went to the new showcase Cinemas at a Patriot Place. Dinner at Red Robin was really good, as usual. I had the bacon cheeseburger with blue cheese and Mike had a bacon cheeseburger as well. We took advantage of the delicious bottomless steak fries. I introduced him to the tasty flavor of fry sauce.

Now that is a tasty burger

We also checked out the showcase Cinemas at patriot Place. We saw the movie Transporter 3. It was an entertaining movie however there was plenty of suspension of disbelief. I suppose that’s what you go to the movies for anyway and so I really liked it. There are a couple of really hard to believe points as with any Transporter movie.

Some people have asked about what a Man Date is all about. Well, I did a little research and found a New York Times article about it. Here is the definition from that article.

Simply defined a man date is two heterosexual men socializing without the crutch of business or sports. It is two guys meeting for the kind of outing a straight man might reasonably arrange with a woman. Dining together across a table without the aid of a television is a man date; eating at a bar is not. Taking a walk in the park together is a man date; going for a jog is not. Attending the movie “Friday Night Lights” is a man date, but going to see the Jets play is definitely not.

And here is the rule of thumb on movies on a man date:

When attending a movie together – preferably with explosions or heavy special effects, never a romantic comedy – guys prefer to put a nice big seat between each other. (This only sounds like an episode of “Seinfeld.”)…

My contest is in full gear. I have quite a few bloggers out there who have been snooping around BenSpark’s Big Box of Awesome! I mean, just today I got a whole batch more bloggers who uncovered items from BenSpark’s Big Box of Awesome!that is okay however I repay their kindness by stumbling their posts. I also learned how to use Yahoo Buzz today. And of course there was post to twitter, Facebook, and del.icio.us. I’ve been using new site called TagFoot. TagFoot is a new site for social bookmarking is in beta right now I’m not sure if I have any invites, I’ll take a look. In the meantime check out these bloggers and what they found.

  1. Kim,

This is how the New York Times article on Man Dates defines one.

So in this case we went to dinner, in a booth, sat and talked, joked with each other about the “manliness” of our drinks, he had the blueberry pomegranate lemonade and I had the Strawberry lemonade. Then we went to the movies and left the seat between us empty. We talked about the previews, I made a few comments to him about some of the ridiculous things about the movie. We went home. A man date.

  2. Definitely a man date, and good for you! There seems to be so much pressure on guys to only socialize if sports, drinking, and/or helping a friend move is involved. There’s no reason two guys can’t eat dinner and then go see a movie. Although, Transporter 3? Was Quantum of Solace sold out? lol
