When I went to Toy Fair and toured the MEGA Bloks booth I spent a lot of time at the Skylanders section and I expressed to my contact that I had to have all of these, I am a huge Skylanders fan. Well, she heard me loud and clear and for the next few months I will be doing regular reviews of the great MEGA Bloks Skylanders Giants line of toys. I decided that we should start with.

The Ultimate Battle Arcade.

The Ultimate Battle Arcade boasts an impressive 300 pieces which includes two Skylanders figures, ShroomBoom and Jet-Vac. It also includes two Battle Portals that light up when they smash and crash into each other or obstacles around the arcade. It is an arcade because the set can be rebuilt into 5 different games that you can play with a friend. There are many additional battle portals that can be purchased with additional figures which are playable in the arcade as well. We currently have 5 additional battle portals in our queue of MEGA Bloks Skylanders Giants reviews and as you saw from the video the next one will be Trigger Happy.

I built the set according to the first set of directions in the book and building was very easy. I do like how the arcade can be reconfigured easily by connecting different pieces to other pieces and completely changing the games. I like how the set incorporated the look of a castle as well as many detail pieces from the Skylanders video games. To mark off a players score you use little pieces of food. In one game you shoot coins and there is also the cute little chompies and sheep that are ever present in the game as well as in the MEGA Bloks sets. I also like the suction cups that are built into the set to keep it in place when battle portals smash and crash into it. I think I need to moisten them first before I push them down so that they stay better but that is something I will keep tweaking.

I liked the figures. There is a lot of nice detail on each figure and they come with their signature weapons also. ShroomBoom has his slingshot and Jet-Vac his vacuum gun. I photographed them from the front as well as the side so that you could better see the detail on the accessories and also take notice of the battle portals having the element symbols and pieces of treasure that you would find in the game.

My final thoughts on the set. This is a decent set and the games are easy to learn and fun to play. Eva and I played the Portal Rumble over and over again. We’re going to play the other four games with other figures as we review them so you will see the Ultimate Battle Arcade again in future reviews. The price isn’t bad either, only $32.20 new on Amazon (at the time of this writing). Additional Battle Portals are about $10 and come with a figure, light up battle portal as well as treasure and signature weapons/accessories. Each additional battle portal also comes with a bumper piece so you can continue to change around the Ultimate Battle Arcade and even make up your own games.

Disclosure: I was sent this set to try out and review as part of an ongoing series of MEGA Bloks Skylanders Giants reviews. Opinions of the product are 100% my own.

  1. [...] In keeping with the theme of MEGA Bloks posts I am releasing the review I made of the Trigger Happy Battle Portal. This product was sent to me for review from MEGA Bloks as part of an ongoing series of posts that I’ve been creating to show off the MEGA Bloks Skylanders Giants figures and sets. The Trigger Happy Battle Portal is a fifteen piece set that comes with a fun Trigger Happy figure, his signature coin guns, a light up battle portal, a sheep and a suction cup barrier. There are also a couple pieces of treasure and the tech element piece in a translucent orange that matches the light up color of the battle portal. We tried out Trigger Happy while playing Treasure Chest Blaster on the Ultimate Battle Arcade. [...]
