Jem And The Holograms

Review: Jem and the Holograms

Jem And The HologramsTomorrow Jem and the Holograms hit the shelves in two DVDs. There is the Season one DVD with all 26 season 1 episodes and then there is the Truly Outrageous complete series set of DVDs with all 65 of the episodes of the series. I was given the season one set to review and Eva and I watched a couple of episodes together.

Jem was one of those shows that came out around the time when the Transformers and G.I. Joe were on the air. In fact they were a Hasbro product and the creation of the series was a collaboration of Hasbro, Marvel productions and Sunbow, the same team that did Transformers and G.I. Joe. So, yeah, I watched it. I always had a thing for Jerrica Benton’s little sister Kimber, the redhead keyboardist and songwriter of the band, the Holograms.

While the series was pretty formulaic in that the main issue each week was Jem/Jerrica Benton trying to keep anyone from finding out her secret while still running Starlight House and fighting to protect Starlight Music from the baddie, Eric Raymond and his band, The Misfits. Jem and her band would be doing something fabulous and then the Misfits would try to give them trouble. This was the overall theme for most of the series and then another band was introduced with a singer who had his eyes on Jem.

The series was fun, filled with music and had many cliffhanger type episodes. What I enjoyed was that the series had a true origin story beginning where we learn about all the characters and their motivations. It was a well put together show and it doing well in re-runs on the Hasbro channel, The Hub. A whole new generation of kids will get to see the Truly Outrageous life of Jem and the Holograms.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the season one DVDs to review. My experience with Jem and the Holograms are 100% my own. My opinions of the series are as well and yes I did have a crush on Kimber.
