Sprinkle with Pixie Dust

Photo-A-Day #1875

My Mom got Eva this beautiful book called The Hidden World of Fairies (Disney Fairies) (Aff Link). This is such a wonderful book too. Eva and I have read the entire thing together. It is written as if it is the journal of Wendy. The journal was given to her by Peter Pan and in it Wendy writes her observations of the fairies. There are things like fold out maps, a guide to animal languages and so many other fun thing. There are some jokes that grown ups will get and there is of course the beautiful Disney Art. This book is a primer for the book In the Realm of the Never Fairies: Secret World of Pixie Hollow, The (Disney Fairies) (Aff Link) which Allison and I bought on one of our Disney trips. We are so excited to be going back in September (but don’t tell Eva it is a surprise, plus if you tell her that we are going 3 months before we do then she’s gonna ask every single day till we go, and do you really want to do that to us?)

Because we’ve been reading this book and because Eva loves fairies I asked her if she’d like to go look for some fairies int he back yard. She got her magnifying glass and her magic wand so that they could help her find the fairies. That kid has such an amazing imagination (despite the time watching TV and movies). We walked around the yard and she looked at the flowers for th fairies and she stopped to pick up some of the flowers that had fallen off the Rhododendron bush. She had me put one behind my ear and then she did the same. We went to the front yard and I asked her to go over on the bench in the front yard garden.

Let me tell you, trying to get a 2 1/2 year old to hold a magic wand directly at you and hold it still is not easy. Eva is a fast kid, she is always on the move. She would follow my directions and then the wand would be this way or that. It took me a ton of shots to get this one and while the wand is not as sharp as I would have liked it to be I like how the picture is composed overall. I didn’t even crop it. I wonder if it would be helpful for me to post my original image and the final images for my Photo-A-Day posts. I don’t do a heck of a lot of post processing. Sometimes I crop and sometimes I adjust the brightness or something else. Occasionally I’ll take out a stray element if I have the time but most of the time I am a what you see is what I shot photographer. That is very much what this picture is. The original and my final are almost identical. I did some spot sharpening on the wand.

I also think this image has a real dreamlike quality to it. Sort of like the glasses that one puts on when they look back on those younger days when things weren’t so complicated. So, sprinkle some pixie dust around and go on a search for fairies you might find some fun.

This photo would certainly be a candidate for an Inspired Gifts Photo Day Planner if I made another one for Allison. Don’t forget to enter my Contest for one of those, it ends tomorrow.

  1. She’s an excellent candidate for Fairy duties! Tink will be so proud! I’m sure you know that Disney is renovating Pixie Hollow and relocating Tink and her pals so they can expand Fantasyland. I’m sure where ever they are it will be just as magical! I think I heard Main Street at the Photo Emporium. They haven’t moved them yet-the only Princess that has been moved out thus far is Ariel. Don’t worry-I won’t breathe a word of it to Eva…she will be so surprised!!

    1. Mo,
I’m pretty sure that Eva would do great with Fairy Duties. Expanding Fantasyland sounds great. It won’t be done by the time we get there but as long as we can see the fairies and princesses then Eva will be happy.

  2. As a big fan of fairies and Eva, I think Eva bringing her magnifying glass to the yard reminds us “to really look -means we stand a better chance of finding.”

I’m tempted to tell Eva that she is going back to the Disney World but I will resist the temptation. giggle. =)

    1. Kim,
That is a great way to look at things.

And I know you’d very well better avoid all temptation to reveal to Eva. Remember I am Houdini and MacGuyver rolled into one.
