Hackathon

Review: Hackathon – Keep Talking to Decode

The Kids and The Hackathon Device

About two years ago we played our first Spy Code game from Yulu. It was called Operation Escape Room and it was a lot of fun. The kids wanted to play it over and over. Since then we’ve tried other Spy Code games like Break Free. The latest game is called Hackathon and we received this recently for a review from Yulu. Hackathon was probably the most challenging game to start but once we got the hang of it we were pros in no time. Opinions of the game are our own. You can see how we did in the video below.

I enjoy the Spy Code games because they are fun family games. Everyone has to work together to solve the problems. In Operation Escape Room you have to get through three challenges to win. In Break Free you are shackled together with your team and have to get out of the cuffs which can take some maneuvering. This time in Hackathon you and your team must work together to save your personal information. One play, the operator works the machine while their team of ‘experts’ and ‘advisors’ guides them through the process of completing eight different modules b deciphering the information found in the instruction manuals. He’s the thing, the operator cannot see the instructions and the advisors cannot see the device. You have to talk it out in order to get the solution.

Getting Ready for Hackathon

This is for ages 8 and up but Andrew was right there along with us helping us play the game over and over. We even played together, the two of us, and he was able to solve the device in a very good amount of time.

The game was tricky at first. We played for the first time after unboxing it on camera and we were bad. Then we went downstairs and as a whole family we played. Allison helped the kids figure out what the cards were actually saying and we were able to solve the device. Then we all played together as a family on the video above. I sped that up, though. I can’t go revealing all the secrets of this fun game. Can I?

Hackathon is for ages 8+. Available August 2018. US: $29.99 Retailers: Target Exclusive.
