Sensors Alive – Exploring Physics In Your World

Sensors Alive ContentsWhen I was at the HoliDAY of play I got to check out Sensors Alive from Thames and Kosmos and I knew that this would be the type of game that would get my kids excited. They would also learn quite a bit from the game. So, I asked for a review copy and one was provided to us. Opinions are our own.

I know that a toy is a hit when once we are done filming an unboxing the kids are begging to keep playing and this is exactly what happened with Sensors Alive. We filmed the video below and then the kids took the sensors and base and their iPads. They then tried out tons of ways all over the house to get different measurements of light, sound and temperature.

What Sensors Alive does is that it pairs physics concepts with cute alien animals that you have to raise and feed and crossbreed in order to bring a dying world back to life. There is a whole big backstory to why you are taking measurements for decibel level, light intensity and degrees Celsius.

The game includes three sensors and one base. The base connects to your iPad via Bluetooth and it sends the quantifiable number from the sensor to the game. By collecting three sensor readings the kids can imprint that information onto a special egg and once they do the experiment once they have to confirm their findings and do the experiment a second time. A great way to teach them that scientists test and retest to make sure that they are gathering the correct information. We used different methods of creating light, temperature and sound levels by playing instruments, whispering, shining a flashlight and even using a hair dryer. It was great to see the kids so excited about discovering how to capture their sensor readings.
