Big Mountain, Big Sky, Big Fun

Photo-A-Day #1904

Today was another amazing day in Park City, Utah at The Evolution of Women in Social Media Conference. I had so much fun. The day started with tears as Make A Wish Foundation did the opening keynote. The stories and then personal testimony of one family was just so moving. Next year Kleenex or some other Tissue company needs to be a sponsor and include tissues in our packs because it was so emotional. And as Allison knows I am so emotional when I am tired. And I am tired because there is just so much to pack into these days.

I had a terrific breakfast with three fantastic people as we sat on the deck by the side of the mountain. There was a tent set up or the option to sit on the deck. I always choose the deck, it is the best place for photos. Evabear came with me the entire day and she met tons of people. I need to get all those photos up and tagged but by the time I got back to my room I was exhausted.

I’m doing these a bit out of order but after the keynote there was a breakout session where we worked on starting a social media campaign for Make A Wish called the Summer of 5000 wishes. I sort of bounced around a lot and didn’t do much contributing but was so intrigued by the concepts and ideas that the women in my group came up with, they were all pretty amazing with their passion, focus and excitement.

After that there was lunch and then a trip up the mountain on the gondola to go to the EVO Workshop: Photography. I wrote a separate post all about that session, which was fun and educational. I love learning what I can about photography.

Back down the mountain for the final keynote of the day Evolution: Geek 2.0. This was a fun keynote for one really major reason. I won a Macbook! Yeah, I couldn’t believe it, me, winning a Macbook. I won it from the Protocol Institute and the people behind that company were so very nice. The way I won was through a text based quiz. I was randomly selected from a group of people who got the correct answer to a quiz question on etiquette. So that was cool I didn’t get to see One Eskimo perform because I had to run back to my hotel room, drop off everything and then change and go back up the hill to go to dinner.

I was invited to a special VIP dinner at Spruce over at the Waldorf Astoria. It was an amazing place and I am going to do a whole separate post about the adventure. All I can say is fresh bottomless Beignets with a vanilla cream sauce and a cherry compote. Delicious!

After dinner I popped into the PBS Kids room and picked up one of their cupcakes, that was delicious. I also learned about a new series coming to PBS called The Cat In the Cat Knows A Lot About That. A new science series. I’m going to learn more today. The women form PBS Kids.org were so nice and I luckily got to meet them at the dinner over at the Waldorf.

I was beat but connected with Aimee Giese and a couple other fun people and had a drink at the hotel bar before turning in. I had water, altitude was getting to me. It was a very, very fun day and I have so many pictures that will be going up on the Evo’10 Conference Set on Flickr.

  1. Wow, congrats on winning that Macbook! I’m glad you had a great time, Drew.

P.S. Watch your ISO. Keep it low when you’re outside in bright daylight.
