Bittersweet Goodbye to Taylor

Photo-A-Day #3154

For the past eleven years we have had the privilege of having the sweetest, gentle dog in our lives. Taylor was my sister and brother-in-law’s dog. They have had her since she was a puppy. She was such a unique dog. Our daughter Eva grew up along side Taylor and they shared a special bond.

We went to say our goodbyes to Taylor today. Tara made a photo album for Eva of the many special moments that they shared together. It was a generous thing for Tara to do especially when she herself was hurting so much. I think that this album will help Eva as she tries to understand losing Taylor.

We decided that Eva should have the option to say a proper goodbye to Taylor so we told her last night that tonight Taylor would be going to puppy heaven. We asked if she would like to say goodbye to Taylor. There were tears but she wanted to say goodbye. In the long run I think that will help her to process the loss of her special friend.

It is always difficult to lose a pet, especially one who was such a part of the family. She was an excellent ball chaser. We’d play soccer together and she was an amazing goalie. She was also so fast and would love playing ball in the back yard over and over. Even when she was tired and in pain she still played with Eva and Andrew in a most gentle and loving way. We will certainly miss that sweet gentle puppy.

    1. One of my fondest memories was many years ago when she was growing out of the puppy stage, she’d jump on the back of the couch and pull my pony tail. Erik even said she could tell the sound of my Harley when I rode up. My heart goes out to
Tara and Erik for the loss of such a special friend.
