I Attended Boston Media Makers Today

Photo-A-Day #2039

Today I attended my first ever Boston Media Makers Event. Boston Media Makers is a group of individuals, bloggers, podcasters, filmakers and more, who get together once a month (the 1st Sunday of the month, it never cancels) at Doyle’s Cafe in Jamaica Plain. Steve Garfield is the organizer and host of the event and it is a pretty good time. The group has been doing this for five years now. That is pretty amazing.

The format is like this. Everyone arrives at 10:00 and from 10-10:30 there is a mix and mingle with coffee. Then at 10:30 Steve asks everyone to take a seat in a set up that is a giant horseshoe so everyone can see each other. Then everyone gets a half a minute to introduce themselves on camera, so Steve can recall everyone who attended. After that everyone goes around and gets 2 minutes to say what they are working on, no sales pitches and such just what sort of media people are making. During that time everyone orders breakfast and we sit back and enjoy what others are up to.

During the event I learned that there is a Southern New England Media Makers club that was founded by Bruce K Garber. I saw his tweet and immediately tweeted back that I needed to talk with Bruce. Come to find out, the group meets one town over from me on the 3rd Sunday of every month. I’m definitely going to become a part of that group.

After that I drove home and went to the Farmer’s Market. There I picked up a loaf of bread for us to take to our friend’s house for dinner and then some honey for Allison. I also discovered that there is a food truck that is at the Farmer’s Market. I got myself a grass fed Angus burger and fresh cut fries. Soo good!

Before Dinner Eva and I went and played with my remote control cars. I got a new one, a Pontiac GTO called “The Judge”. Eva had more fun chasing the thing that anything else. She loved it.

Dinner was at Michele and Bob’s place. Eva and their daughter are best friends and it was hilarious watching them trying on princess dresses and chasing each other all around the house in their clompy princess shoes. Dinner was great and we enjoyed spending time with our good friends.

    1. Steve,

Once I get my stuff together and have a little time, I’ll post something from the event. I got so into what everyone was saying that I stopped videoing. I’ll make sure that next time I do some interviews and more on people.
