Capron Park Zoo’s Red-crested Cardinal

Photo-A-Day #2180

Today I was home for a bereavement day to help Allison prepare for Grandpa John’s funeral. To break things up a bit I took the girls out for lunch. We went to Tex Barry’s Coney Island Diner. I’d heard nothing but good things about them. A friend of ours even got engaged there. The dogs were tasty and the prices were so cheap too.

After we went there we headed over to Capron Park Zoo. We got a family membership there and are going to use it as often as we can. The place was pretty empty and that was probably because of it being a school day and also it was a cold day. It was sunny so, in the sun it wasn’t too bad. Eva had the run of the playground and went right over to the zebras. The zebras are the rocking horse things on springs. Eva pretended to be Jessie from Toy Story (her latest obsession). Here she is riding high and swinging her lasso.

The animals at the zoo were pretty active though. We were able to see the snow leopard very active. The snow leopard is one of my favorite animals at the zoo. It is so beautiful. It was walking around smelling something, our cats do this all the time, the first time they ever did it, it freaked me out.

The cardinal from today’s photo was shot in the Rainforest exhibit. Inside that exhibit there are a bunch of great animals including an Indian Flying Fox. We hardly ever see them active and I snapped this shot.
