Got the Whole Building To Myself

Empty Office

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #00453

Tonight was supposed to be the Father/Daughter dance for Eva’s school. It is the first one that we’ve ever missed. Obviously there is a strong reason for it but still, a tough thing to be missing. Some of the other parents and kids dressed up tonight and did some special Father Daughter dance things. That would have been great for us to do as well. However, I had to go in to the office to run the physical switchboard. This was after having to come in last Monday to get a special computer with special software to run the switchboard remotely.

You might ask, why do I have to go to the office and be with the physical switchboard. Well, we have never had remote switchboard capability before and our technical team put this together last week. While it works great it is not perfect and so as a company with many hospitals across the country relying on us to be there to help we can’t go letting calls slip through the cracks. So, as a backup precaution one person comes to the physical building and sits at the physical switchboard, while they run the remote software they are also able to grab any calls that are missed by that software. It is a good thing, too because our day staff discovered that certain numbers that customers call (older numbers) are not routed to the new software but rather the physical switchboard. So that is why I am the only employee in the whole building (save one guy in Operations who is somewhere.)

almost clear vending machineDid I also mention that the vending machine is looking sparse! It is a good thing that I didn’t want Chex Mix as they are not dropping anytime soon.

Family Zoom Meeting and Birthday Party

Family Zoom Meeting

Today was my sister Tara’s birthday and she set up a Zoom meeting for the entire family. We used that time to catch up and wish Tara a Happy Birthday. We had my parents on as well as my sister, Shelby and her kids plus Tara. With everyone spread out all over it was nice to do something like this so we could catch up. I think by the end of this the kids will learn how to behave while on a Facetime, Google Hangouts or Zoom call. Andy just has a very hard time staying still on the thing. We actually set up our island chairs to face the computer so that we could all see and the computer mic picks us up fine so we didn’t have to be right on top of everything. I think it worked out well.

Eva working on the BB hoop

Before and after the Zoom call I had a little project to work on. Our in-laws sent us a basketball hoop. Eva and Andy were both very interested in helping out with the assembly of the hoop. I got out my mechanic’s toolkit and showed Eva how to use the socket wrench. We worked together until the Zoom meeting and then again until around 11:45 when I had to go in for my daily LEGO livestream. There was a time right after the Zoom meeting where Eva took care of connecting the hoop to the backboard. She did a great job unsupervised. We loaded it up with water, we had no sand, and the kids were ready to get playing. So, while I did my livestream I could hear the kids having a great time using the hoop. I think they will be having a lot of fun with it as the weather continues to warm up.
