Contest! – Because Pop Rocks

*Contest Ends 03/19/10

I don’t think that I’ve ever been more excited by what a band has done to music in my entire life. Yesterday I was listening to Mike Schmidt’s 40 Year Old Boy podcast (wicked funny but foul mouthed) and he mentioned a band called Rock Sugar. I’m pretty sure these guys just changed my musical life forever. The band, Rock Sugar, has created mashups of pop and rock songs. For instance this was the first song I heard and it totally sold me. It will sell you too.

The band has created this story around themselves in that they are a Heavy Metal band that was stranded on a desert island for the past 20 years with only the totally 80’s pop music collection of a 13 year old girl to sustain them and torment them. To cope they “re imagined” these songs as metal songs and thus Rock Sugar was born. The band was eventually rescued and came back to Hollywood, brainwashed from the Pop but ready to introduce the world to something totally new. This is a loose overview of the funny story of the band that is on the band’s website. I love the whole concept. I love it so much that I bought two copies of their CD. One for me and one to give away to one lucky reader.

If you want your own copy of Reimaginator by Rock Sugar then you’re going to have to do a few things. I only want true fans of 80’s Metal and Pop who can appreciate the sheer Awesomeness of this band to win. So Your mission is to help Rock Sugar get more exposure. This is not a paid post or anything. I just love the band, their sound and their humor. This is a totally BenSpark sponsored with BenSpark money, contest. After I post this I’m telling the band about it, hopefully they’ll sign the CD too.

  1. That was some great stuff. Let’s see maybe we can get a little of Skid Row’s “Eighteen and Live” mixed with Gerog Michael’s “Got to have Faith”. That should make for some funny stuff. I’m not sure if the music is complementary at all but the messages would be pretty funny.
.-= Look at what Kevin wrote blog ..The Discovery Adventure Club =-.

I posted their video on my page and commented on it with a link to your contest. I can’t figure out how to tag you to it, but it’s at the top of my page today if you want to check it.
I’ve been thinking…. AC/DC Highway to Hell and Power Station’s Get it On. It could be called…Bang a Gong to Hell? I had to think back to 80’s metal, but when I looked for heavy metal albums at amazon, I got back results for Poison, Quiet Riot, and the Scorpions. If that’s considered heavy metal, I guess I was a huge heavy metal fan when I was a teenager.

    1. Joanne,

I brought the CD with me to work. I have it if you want to take a listen. Thanks for entering the contest.
