Bratwurst Anthem Inspires Avid Grillers and Wannabe Rockstars Alike
Johnsonville introduces ‘Don’t Pierce the Brat’ ballad and encourages fans to perform their own rendition for a chance to win $5,000 and a year’s supply of brats

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. (July 17, 2013) – Grillmasters are famous for preparing meaty feasts for their friends and families, and no one is more committed to this task than the Johnsonville Brattender.

He took his love for grilled brats to a whole new level in recording his first song and music video titled “Don’t Pierce the Brat.” Here, he captures the angst and passion true grilling experts feel when the cardinal rule of grilling brats isn’t followed. He’s not only expressed his feelings through music, but he invites the nation to educate other grillers not to pierce their brats, through an ultimate karaoke contest, open nationally July 17-August 30, 2013.

Johnsonville’s “Don’t Pierce the Brat” is a humorous parody on a classic ’80s love ballad that brings this common grilling blunder to the forefront. Piercing the outer skin of a brat while grilling releases the meat’s juices, leaving it dry. Through Aug. 30, brat fans can record and submit their own version of this summer anthem for a chance to win $5,000 and free Johnsonville brats for a year.

“With barbecue season in full swing, we wanted to share this important grilling tip in a fun, lighthearted way,” said Fabian Pereira, vice president of marketing at Johnsonville Sausage. “At Johnsonville, we’re committed to quality, and this simple tip will ensure consumers are getting the most flavorful, savory grilled brat possible.”

To enter, consumers can log on to Johnsonville’s Facebook page to download the “Don’t Pierce the Brat” song lyrics and music video. There they can create their own video and upload it to the Facebook application. People who can’t carry a tune need not worry—style, creativity and passion are the main criteria for a winning entry. Or, for those who just want to view the video, it is also available on YouTube.

Entries must be submitted by Aug. 30. The winning entry will be selected by Sept. 9 and will be announced shortly thereafter.
