Duncan Just Goes With It

Photo-A-Day #2163

Today we saw Allison’s parents off with some breakfast at SweetWorks. I was there because I woke up pretty sick and so took a sick day. We enjoyed breakfast and my Dad came with us as well. SweetWorks has amazing breakfasts and Eva loves it there. They are always so nice to her and make sure that they put in her order early so she doesn’t have to wait too long, little kids get hungry and bored quicker. Eva was pretty well behaved too and that helped her get a few marbles in her behavior jar. Something new we have started. For every instance of good behavior she gets two marbles. When the marbles get to a certain level then she can pick a prize or wait till they get higher to get a bigger prize.

My photo today is of Duncan. He’s been real sick lately but looks to be on the mend. He got extremely skinny and we tried a bunch of things to help him get better. Finally after a few visits to the vet and rounds of antibiotics it looks as if he’s started to put on weight and is more his normal self.

I shot the photo with my Nikon D80 and my Sigma 70mm – 300mm Lens with Macro. I put the camera on my Gorillapod for Digital SLRs. I picked that gadget up at Savers for $2.99. You’re not gonna find that on any day, it goes for about $30 or so. I was lucky. The Gorillapod for Digital SLRs is really nice, I didn’t think it would work real well with such a long lens but it held it upright.

I also used a a Triple Bubble Level that fits the hotshoe of a Digital SLR. Picked that up a while ago and never used it because my tripods have levels in them already. I probably should use it though because my main tripod is terrible and I’d get a more accurate reading on this bubble level.

Tonight Allison and I went to see Just Go With It at Cinema World in Lincoln, Rhode Island. We certainly knew the outcome of this “Rom Com” going into it but it was none the less entertaining. We hadn’t been to the movies in a while and I guess it is because we haven’t had the time, thanks to my Mom for watching Eva we were able to go. We also hadn’t been to a movie on a Friday night in a long time and that I do not miss. Long lines, surly people at the ticket windows and the astronomical prices at the concession stand.

So, at the concession stand they had a “special” for a pretzel and a bottled soda fro $5.75. Prices are insane and I know that is where movie theaters make their money so I’m not annoyed at that specifically. Here is what annoyed me. Allison wanted a Sprite. They did not have Sprite in a bottle, only as a fountain drink. However, the special was only for bottled drinks. The thing that annoyed me was that the cost of fountain drinks is pennies compared to that of bottled drinks. The kid at the counter only knows that bottled drinks are part of the special and there is probably a button for that special so he cannot think for himself and doesn’t have the freedom to make a decision to make a substitution. When concession stands are already gouging patrons with stale popcorn (popped the day before and stored in bags overnight but poured into the fresh popped areas, you aren’t fooling anyone), horrible prices and “specials” that are not at all special is it any wonder that people bring in their own food.

Despite being annoyed at the concession stand I was able to laugh and enjoy the movie and so did Allison. It was a nice night out. Glad we had free passes that we had won. Don’t get me started on ticket prices, or 3D $3.00 service fees…

  1. I like the level. It looks kinda cool. We are cannon people. We have a sigma 70-200 f2.8. What is the f stop on the lens. Hope you kitty heals quickly. It is so hard when animals are sick because they can not vocalize the same way we do .

Also I got the cell case today and I want to thank you today.

    1. Karen,

Great! I am glad the case arrived so quickly. I mailed it Friday morning (sorry, soonest I got do it.) If you get a chance could you send me a note with a photo of it for a future Giveaway newsletter. Let me know what you enjoy about it.

I’ll check on the speed of the lens, It may be 2.8 or 5.6, not sure.

Yes, having sick cats or any animal that can’t tell you what is wrong it so tough for the exact reason you said.
