How us Geeks Communicate at Loud Parties

Photo-A-Day #1955

Today was the first actual day of Affiliate Summit and it was a good day. Allison and I started off our morning getting something to eat at the Starbucks across the street and then we came over and got registered. Back to the hotel room to relax a little bit and pack up for the conference. Then back downstairs to the show where we could get logged in and do some updating of things like blog posts and such.

Once the sessions started I made my way over to the Podcasting 101 session where my Geek Dads Weekly co-hosts Daniel M. Clark and Joe Magennis were part of the session and also Trisha Lyn Fawver of Affiliate Marketing Fanatics with Mike Buechele was on the panel. The Panel was moderated by Lisa Picarille, who has such a fantastic voice and who is the co-host of the Affiliate Thing podcast with Shawn Collins. The session was a great one because it has inspired me to give it a go to start my very own podcast, something that I have been working on trying to do for some time now but am finally taking that plunge as soon as I return home. It will be something very much photography related and Photo-A-Day related. I don’t think anyone is doing something like this.

After the podcasting session I went to the Meet Market to get some ShareASale tickets to their big party at the Empire Hotel. The Meet Market was crazy and while I was there I caught up with Jim Kukral and he asked if I would do a testimonial video for his book: Attention. For Jim, anything, he has been a great help to me and because of that I am good to go when he needs my help. After I did the testimonial he signed not only my book but my Kindle. So his name gets added to the ranks there of Gary Vaynerchuk. I missed asking Chris Brogan at Audience.

The rest of the afternoon was a fun little whirlwind where I ran up to the Apple store with Daniel M. Clark. We went and bought some iPad Camera Connector Kits. I am not quite that impressed with the tool but it was a mere $30. I am going to look into being able to use this with my cameras so that I can use the iPad as a tethered screen so instead of seeing the images in a 2.5 inch screen I can see them in 10 inches where I can quickly pinch and zoom them.

I attended the newcomer event because Jen Goode asked me to come. She is so sweet that you just cannot say no to her. Jen also talked with me after the podcasting session and she has some fantastic ideas for a podcast and she also is encouraging me to make my own podcast. I can’t wait to tell her the idea that I have come up with and will be rolling out over the next few months. i need to talk to her more about merchandising some BenSpark things. She’s got a great store that merchandising her fun designs. I love Happy Breakfast. She is right, breakfast should always be happy.

After that session we caught up with Tim Jones and walked over to the Empire Hotel for the ShareASale Rooftop party. This was a fun party with many cool people. We got there super early so there were no lines, no waiting, tons of food and easy access to drinks. Sure it is cool to come later when the lines are wrapped around the building but being able to secure a whole section for friends to sit is so much better than that. I was able to talk to some really great people like Danny Prussman. We spent a good deal of time talking about how we could monetize things and while talking with him I hashed out my whole podcasting idea. I can’t wait to start that.

Allison and I had a great time at the party and loved talking with everyone. When it got closer to midnight we headed back to the hotel and split a street pretzel before bed. It was a very good day.
