Let’s Go Fly A Kite

Photo-A-Day #2233

Today is Friday for most people but for me it is my Monday because I head back to work tonight at 6pm for my overnight shift. That means that I have to get some sleep. It also means that I have to try and get as much done before 1pm as possible. I figure that a four hour rest and nap should get me ready for the overnight. I’m not thoroughly sure though as it is only my 4th weekend on so far.

I really thought that doing weekends would make the month fly by like crazy but for some reason I started working this job on the month with 5 weekends in it. May 1st was my first Sunday on so yeah 5 weekends in May. Crazy. It is going well but Fridays seem like sort of lost days. I did pack a few books but didn’t get into too much of a project because I’d be heading off to sleep.

I’m also trying to fix the desktop because it went crazy again so that is not working, it is running through a bunch of tests that let me know that the computer is working. Except it doesn’t work, so with a mixture of black magic, voodoo and a copper or two to Gates it may yet work again.

So the Kite thing. I’ve watched Mary Poppins about 30 times with Eva as she’s grown into a very inquisitive toddler. In the movie the children simply want their workaholic father to stop and pay some attention to them and fly a kite with them. To George Banks it is a frivolous waste of time. However, we find that doing that one thing with his children made all the difference and was the completion of his transformation from a stand off father to a loving father to his children.

When Eva and I went to Walmart on Tuesday there was a row of kites for $1. She picked out a Barbie one and I figured what the heck, it was a buck. Turns out that this little cheapo kite looks like it will provide hours of enjoyment for Eva and me. We just have to find a windy day instead of running around the driveway like crazy people. Did make for a cute photo though. Also this activity reminds me to take a little time with Eva and play with her, just simply play.

  1. What a cutie! She looks so happy to be outside playing with her new kite and spending time with Daddy. =) This is such a sweet picture, and the dynamic shot is perfect.

    1. Thank you Delena,

I love this photo, she is having so much fun as she simply runs around the driveway. I can’t wait to take her kite flying for real.

      1. Hi Drew!

No problem; she really us completely darling. =) My daughter’s nine months now, and now that the rain has abated somewhat (we live in the Pac NW) taking her outside is much more fun. Whenever the wind blows, she gasps and laughs. She loves it! I can’t wait to take her kite flying, now that I think about it. =)

        1. Delena,

PAC NW, you are up early. I’m up because I work overnights on the weekends. Today is my Friday. 2 hours more till I’m off till next Friday. I bet your daughter will love kite flying. There was a slight bit of wind today and Eva was off and running again with her kite, so funny.

          1. Up early? Nah, I just hadn’t gone to bed yet. I do all my work-related stuff while the baby’s sleeping, and usually that means bedtime is 6am, then I’m up again with the little one. =)
