Make the (Nintendo) Switch this Father’s Day

Playing Snipperclips with andrew

For the past couple of years for Father’s Day we have had epic water balloon fights. That is the activity that I enjoy most for Father’s Day, having great fun with the family. Getting everyone to laugh and let loose. Especially me. I’m too rigid in day to day life and need these moments of chaos and fun to be able to act like the little kid inside me. I think that many dads want a chance to play with their kids and have a great time on Father’s Day. This year I’d still like to have that epic water balloon fight, but once we dry off I would like to try some play fighting of another sort.

I bought the Nintendo Switch the day it came out, I had it pre-ordered and could not wait to experience this new gaming system. I’ve been a Nintendo fan ever since the NES back in the 80’s. So far I have only been playing the switch on my own except for two things. Andrew and I did the Global Test Fire of Splatoon 2 and we recently got a copy of Snipperclips to review (see below). There are some great family games for the Nintendo Switch like Mario Kart 8 and the upcoming wacky boxing game: ARMS. ARMS just happens to be coming out on Father’s Day and that is something I’d love to play with the kids on that day. Here is some official info on the game.

ARMS

ARMS (Nintendo Switch, $59.99) is the newest creation from the team behind the hit game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Choose a unique fighting champion, equip your own combination of extendable arms and then battle it out with friends and family!* Using a mix of button presses and quick hand motions, ARMS allows you to throw tactical punches or avoid incoming attacks. Unleash your inner fighter in this unbelievable sporting event!

Dads will love the game Engadget calls “a lighthearted, competition-focused brawler with endearing characters, unique stages and excellently balanced gameplay” and that IGN says is “a fighting game with a balletic rhythm and flow that feels unique.”

ARMS launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch on June 16. For more information, check out http://arms.nintendo.com/.

*Additional accessories required for multiplayer and are sold separately.

Arms Looks like a pretty incredible game. It is funny and colorful and just the sort of game that Nintendo would create to bring the family together to play. Nintendo also created a cute little game called Snipperclips that is just as colorful but a bit less exciting. However, it is still fun and funny to play.

Switch SnipperClips

We received a download code for free for Snipperclips in order to review the game. Opinions are our own.

In Snipperclips you can a friend or family member can control two cute little characters Snip and Clip. with these characters you solve puzzles, create shapes and in the case of Andrew and I keep hitting snip to cut each other apart. That was his favorite thing to do while playing the game. You can snip off pieces of each character to help make the special shapes needed to solve the puzzles. Andrew would get all sorts of overzealous and cut my character to pieces. I’d do the same right back and then we would focus and beat the puzzle.

The game can have up to four players in party mode and when you play that you can either share the joycons or if you have a second set of them, everyone can have their own joycon. We haven’t played this mode yet because we haven’t al been in the house together for more than 2 minutes lately. But we will get to playing that and then all of us will have a fun time playing this cute game.

Switch Zelda

Now I know that not every Dad is like me. There are some who want to relax all off by themselves for Father’s Day. For that Dad there is a perfect game. That would be The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I got this game with my pre-order and I have not been able to put it down. I’ve been trying to get 100% completion in the game by scouring the entire land of Hyrule for everything possible, like the 900 Korok seeds. With this game I can escape for a while and just have fun riding horses, climbing mountains and fighting monsters. It is one of the greatest games I have ever played.

So, no matter the dad in your life there is a Nintendo Switch game for him.

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch ($299.99) is a home gaming console with the mobility of a hand-held system. In addition to providing single- and multiplayer thrills at home, the system can be taken on the go so players can enjoy a full home console experience anytime, anywhere.

  1. Good! I need a Nintendo Switch to play with my kid too, but here in Brazil it’s still expensive for me.
