Movie: Hot Fuzz

I went to see the movie Hot Fuzz today. This was from the folks who made Shaun of the Dead, a movie I have not seen. This is a British comedy that simultaneously mocks and celebrates with sweet homage to the buddy cop flicks like Point Break and Bad Boys II. There is also a send up to the “Bay Shot” – a shot where the camera circles in tight on the hero.

I loved this movie for the sheer hilarity of the situation. Here is this cops who is so good at his job that he is making the rest of the force look bad. His name is Nicholas Angel and he is reassigned to a sleepy town called Sandford. There he is partnered with the worst cop on the force and son of the chief.

But all is not well in this sleepy town, there are many “accidents” around and Nicholas eventually gets to the bottom of the mystery. I don;t want to give anything away but each accident is more and more graphic with large displays to spurting blood, the carnage is almost laughable in its over the top feel.

What really did it for me was that moment in every buddy cop flick where the good guys have had enough playing by the rules and they break out of their comfort zone and start to kick ass. The climactic ending was so funny that I could not stop laughing. I really liked this movie and thought I would but then had a sneaking feeling as I bought the ticket that maybe I would not like it, I am glad I stuck with the decision and watched the movie.

I really liked the transition/montages they moved the story along very well and it almost makes me want to see Shaun of the Dead.
