I am an Alton Brown Junkie. I admit it and am very very proud of it. Alton is every cooking geek’s aspiration. I watch his show and absorb every word like a mantra. For example I find myself loathing uni-taskers for some reason. I can’t look at a cow without wondering if Alton is going to pop up and flip up a flank and show me which cuts come from which parts. And I make sure that I have the latest AB Gear.
Allison and I met Alton Brown once. We went to a talk he was giving at the Burlington, MA Barnes and Noble. He was promoting his book Gear for your Kitchen. Alton talked for over an hour and then stood there and greeted every hungry fan for at least 3-5 minutes each. We talked about books we were reading, motorcycles and personal assistants. Alton was a super nice guy and as animated and knowledgeable as he is on his show Good Eats.
I am in a contest to win a set of Feasting On Asphalt DVD’s. Feasting on Asphalt was a 4 our special that starred Alton Brown and his friends on a cross country motorcycle and eating tour of America. I travel all the time and love to find out of the way places to eat. This premise of this show was music to my ears.
Unfortunately I ended up messing up the taping of this series each week and finally watched it during a 4 hour marathon session. Well, now there is a DVD set and I want one. Christine is giving one away if I get the highest number of votes. Voting ends on Wednesday at 7:00pm EST. And you may vote once a day until then. I am neck and neck with another competitor and would really like to win this. The prize also comes with a View Master.
I heard also that there is going to be a Feasting on Asphalt 2 (I don’t know when it premieres yet, but once I do I will let everyone know.) But I did find the Feasting on Asphalt 2 blog. And I would love to take that trip through season 1 once more time before I see the next road trip.
I thought I would have the contest sewn up because I have a lot of friends at work who would be voting for me, but since the company has 2 IP addresses only 2 people of the 20 could place votes. I LOVE this picture! I have that book, too…very useful for my own recipes, and the pockets are great for storing the manuals for kitchen appliances.
And of course, I have the plunger measuring cups…and the salt thing…and the beaker measuring cup…and cast iron cookware (which I had long before I ever heard of AB, but still)…oh, I could go on and on.
I’m still jealous that you got to meet him. I wish he’d write another book and do a tour…I hate waiting in line, but for him, I’d wait for hours!
