We’ve Got The The Party House – The Super Mario Party (House)

Trike Harder with Super Mario Party

The party house, you know the one, the place where all the kids want to hang out. I would love to be that house, have a great big family room and invite a bunch of kids over to play all sorts of fun party games. Well, we do not have that yet. What we do have is a copy of the latest in the line of Mario Party games. We were given a copy of Super Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch. We were also given two brand new Radio Flyer tricycles, but more on that later.

There are so many minigames in Super Mario Party that you cannot possibly play all of them in a single session. I like this because that means that each time you play you have an almost guaranteed chance to play something new. There are over 80 new minigames in this one game. Not only that but there are many modes for play. In addition to everyone playing on one system with four joycons you can pair up two systems and play that way. Double the play screens. But that is not all, you can now use Nintendo Switch Online service to play super Mario Party online. So, I guess we really do not need to have that giant party house, we can bring the party anywhere that we go!

Andrew and I did a livestream of the game the other day and had a great time. You can see many of the different minigames in this video.

Here is a trailer of the game.

We have played this game several times as a family. It started off with Andrew and I playing together during Eva’s birthday party. Andrew was feeling left out of all the fun the girls were having so I pulled him aside and let him try the game for the first time with me. About an hour later and he was happy and hooked on playing. He could not wait to play with Allison and Eva.

Our first chance to play was this past week. We had a great time and to get everyone warmed up we played a bunch of the minigames. You have the option of choosing the minigame that you are going to play or go random. Everyone got used to the type of gameplay and so we kicked it up a notch on our second outing. We played the board game style. In this version of the game players compete in minigames but they are also hustling around an ever changing game board in search of stars and coins. You really want to get those stars because that is ultimately how you win the game. There is a lot of random luck but also some strategy in how you play this version of the game. Anyone could win with a good roll of the dice or even the character specific dice blocks.

For me, the most fun is playing the more silly minigames where you have to use the joycons to simulate moving. Whether it be climbing hand over hand up a pole, flipping a cube of steak on a frying pan or even riding a tiny tricycle there is laughter and fun to be had. Remember those tricycles? Well, they were provided to us because one of the newest minigames is called Trike Harder. Players have to rotate their joycons to simulate the pedals of a bike moving along quickly. It is fast and hilarious to watch.

I foresee the family having many more rounds of Super Mario Party on our Nintendo Switch in the future.
