Hike at Moose Hill

Photo-A-Day #3771

Today we took the kids over to the MA Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, Moose Hill. This was the first time that we had been to this particular sanctuary. It is the oldest MA Audubon sanctuary and sits on 1971 acres. It is pretty huge with a ton of trails. We did a short loop hike called Billings Loop. It was pretty flat the whole way and the kids did a good job for the most part. Andrew wanted a snack ten steps into the hike. Then Allison tried to get him to ride the piggyback rider but he kept stepping off and then wanted to go back down and walk.

We packed a picnic lunch and the kids enjoyed climbing around on some rocks. I took my camera with me and Eva took her camera with her. She had fun taking photos all over the trail. I brought my 50-150S lens and my Fisheye. I had fun with both of those lenses. I shot a bunch of dragonflies and this one butterfly with torn up wings. This is one place that I look forward to going back to for more hikes.

Adventure Friday at Waseeka Wildlife Sanctuary

Photo-A-Day #3682

Andrew and I went on a little Friday excursion to Hopkinton to check out the Waseeka Wildlife Sanctuary, an Audubon Society location. It was a great little walk. It was pretty flat and easy, too. You walk out to the pond that has a man made and beaver made damn. We saw neither. I think they might have been on another side. We did look out over the water and see an Osprey next and a flying osprey that was way too far away. There were a couple of bird watchers with super long lens cameras taking photos. They were not that friendly.

Andrew did a good job on the hike. He did ask for me to carry him a few times and I had him continue to walk. It was an easy walk that any kid his age should be able to do. Just tells me that we need to get out and walk more. But he did well overall. He was pretty tired when we headed for lunch.

Then we went over to Snappy Dogs for a delicious lunch. Andrew had the little dog and I had a big dog special steak and cheese dog. I was glad to get back to Snappy Dogs. I am glad that the women who own it were able to open this year. It was also good to see a nice long line at lunch. They really are so nice. They remembered me and Andrew and called out to us by name as we came up to order. Andrew enjoyed his dog and then played hula hoops with a couple of little girls.

Our adventure wasn’t over, yet. Driving home, making good time and Andrew is nearly out. Then a tire blew. I stopped right before exit 15 on 495. I stopped put the hazards on, got Andrew out if the car and over the guardrail. Got out the donut and a trooper stopped on his way home. He helped me get back on the road and in my way in 20 minutes. I’m so grateful to our state troopers and not just because we love Uncle Mike. I was pretty on edge because of where we were stopped and because I had Andrew. I changed the tire myself. The trooper jacked up the car. Adventure Friday is right.
