A Netflix Survival Guide for the Long Holiday Road Trip

Pack Your Phone - Big Kid

Three years ago we took a family trip up to New Hampshire to the Christmas Farm Inn for Thanksgiving. This is a three hour ride. It is a long ride for a couple of little kids but it isn’t too terrible. We had some DVDs to take with us and a car that had a DVD player for the kids. Now, thrown in a blizzard and an extra four hours to the ride plus the kids’ desire to watch the same DVD repeatedly for those extra four hours. You can only imagine how keyed up I was. Luckily that turned out to be one of the best trips ever as a family.

If we were to make the trip again one thing that I would make sure we do is check out all the shows that we could download on our Netflix app. That way we could load up the kids’ devices with some great content that they could watch on the ride. I think we’d be safe putting at least six hours of downloads on each device. That would be enough for many episodes of their favorite shows like Beat bugs, Super Monsters, Trollhunters and Project MC2. It is really easy to do, too. Just fire up the app and choose “Available for Download” then search and download your favorite shows. Definitely make sure that you choose “available for Download” first. This will save you from getting your hopes up that a show is downloadable only to find out that it is not. There are a ton of shows that are available for download but there are also some that are not. Follow my advice to prevent any unwanted frustration. Netflix shows you how road trips can be better in this video which has a re-purposed popular show intro.

Birthday Parties, Beat Bugs Style

Beat Bugs Bday Invite

Each month I am talking about the Beat Bugs because I am not only part of the Dream Team for Beat Bugs and also part of the Netflix Stream Team.

Apparently September is the most popular month for birthdays. That is why Netflix made some very special birthday messages from their properties. One such birthday message was from the Beat Bugs. September has come and gone and we are on to our actual birthday season. Eva turns 10 in October and Andrew turns six in November. While we are not having a Beat Bugs themed birthday for either of the kids there are many other people who are and would like to find the best Beat Bugs themed party favors and ideas.

Some of you might be familiar with Beat Bugs, the hit preschool show on Netflix.  If you have a preschooler, and don’t have Netflix, Beat Bugs just may be a reason to become a member.  Meet Buzz, Walter, Jay, Crick, and Kumi, the Beat Bugs.  Josh Wakely’s Beat Bugs is an Emmy Award-winning animated kids series featuring music made famous by The Beatles. Stories revolve around the lives and adventures of these five best friends; charming and funny childlike bugs who explore and learn life lessons in their suburban backyard home. Each episode ties in a song inspired by the Fab Four, reimagined in an innocent and child-friendly fashion, sung by one of the characters or guest stars that include mega-musicians P!nk (“Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”), Sia (“Blackbird”), Aloe Blacc (“Rain”), The Shins (“The Word”), Jennifer Hudson (“I’ll Follow the Sun”), and more. For families that keep the fab five close to their hearts, you may be wondering if there are any party supplies to be able to throw your very own Beat Bugs themed birthday party for young bug-fanatics. Unfortunately, no official merchandise is available just yet, but the Beat Bugs Dream Team and Netflix Stream Team have been given an official ‘how to guide’ to share with readers to help parents throw the awe-shom-est Beat Bugs Birthday Party ever!
