Flip it Over

Flip it Over
Photo-A-Day #1429

I took my two Flip Action Mounts and attached them to Allison’s bike. I’ll probably ride that bike this year since Allison isn’t too keen on bike riding and my bike has a funky thing going on with the crank. The year I got my bike the crank fell apart and got warped. It was repaired but still always felt slightly warped. I stopped riding that one and took to riding Allison’s instead.

Today I took my new Flip Mino HD and also my Canon SD 800is and the two Flip Action Mounts to the garage and I connected them to the handlebars of Allison’s bike. I had been trying to figure out, for the life of me how these action mounts were going to work. The directions on how to use them are terrible and vague. I searched all over to figure out just how to attach the mounts correctly and then I happened upon a review somewhere that said you had to take the straps and thread them through the eyelets and then cross them. So I took the mount placed it on the handlebar. I threaded the strap through the eyelet, thus wrapping the strap around the handlebar. Then I criss-crossed the straps so that the Velcro would stick properly. I read many people complaining that the straps and Velcro did not stick that well and didn’t hold the Flip in place. I didn’t have that problem at all. If you attach the mount correctly then you should have no problem with the Flip sliding.

The problem however is that I was trying to ride a bike over bumpy roads and watching the videos I made proceeded to make me nauseous. For one thing I don’t ride in a straight line. The handlebars were swerving left and right. The other thing was the road was bumpy so you have this video swerving from left to right and vibrating a bit. While the picture was actually pretty good from the flip it was terrible from the Canon. For some reason there was this crazy annoying clicking noise on the canon video. It was only present on the Canon and it only happened when the bike was moving. We’ve taken a ton of videos with the Canon and never had that noise. I hope that camera is not telling me something.
