Our First Drive-In Mass

Drive-In Church

We went to church today for the first time in several months. It was much different than it has ever been in the past. Our pastor has had a stage erected off the parking lot at one of the churches, the one with the largest parking lot. Cars come and everyone pulls in as directed by the ushers. We tune our radios to the proper station and we stay in our cars and watch the Mass. At the end of Mass we get out and line up for Communion. Everyone is masked and you only take your mask off to consume the host. It was all run pretty well. There were some technical and sound issues but that is to be expected. Otherwise pretty smooth.

I do appreciate that our church has kept people in the loop with Facebook live masses and more. Then also grateful to America’s Best Defense not only for the Zoom classes but also the weekly message and Sensei connect sessions. They have been a lot of fun.

It was a pretty quiet day around here. I slept most of the day but before that I played a bit with Andy. He’s loving Minecraft Dungeons and having fun playing together on that game. We also visited our babysitter to give her a graduation gift. Can’t believe that we have babysitters heading off to college already.

Sundays at 5pm

We changed up when we go to church now. When the parishes changed their times we figured that the only option was still Sunday mornings, but now they were at 8am at Saint Mark’s. While I had no aversion to going to St. Mark’s it just wasn’t Sacred Heart which has been our home and was actually across the street from my home growing up. So, once the Summer was over we were able to go back to Sacred Heart. It is a different time for everyone to come to Mass but it looks to be working out so far and we enjoy being back.

It is good too because I learned that the 3 churches will be starting up a Youth Group and I would like to help out as a volunteer for that. In college I had studied Youth Ministry at a local retreat house called Emmaus House and was very near to getting certified as a Youth Minister. I stopped because of my studies and other reasons but I think it is time to put that knowledge to use to help out our parishes and kids.
