Changing My Dexcom

For 90% of the time my Dexcom G6 is great, it monitors my blood sugar and is very accurate. However, when you replace a sensor there is a warm up time. When you replace a transmitter it takes some time for it to connect. I replaced mine this morning when the alarm for it woke me. Then I tried to get to sleep and it was just not happening. Then when the transmitter and sensor warmed up things were looking good and then the numbers crashed down. They really were not crashing because I checked them the traditional way. I calibrated the app and ate a little something just in case. Tried to get back to sleep and couldn’t. Got another alarm and recalibrated again. I’ve got to stop changing these things on the weekends or at least wait until after I wake up.

Olives and Cheese

One of Allison’s students is a diabetic and she shared with Allison that something that helps regulate her sugar before bed is a slice or two of cheese and a couple olives. We are not sure why that combination but it appears to work for her and for me. Because my schedule is weird on the weekends I can end up getting low alerts on the days when I sleep. So, to prevent this I’ve adopted the cheese and olive method of regulating steady sugars before sleeping for the day. I do have to get myself some white American cheese, though, the yellow is Andy’s.
