App Alert: Tiggly Counts

Packaging_Tiggly Counts

We are big fans of Tiggly Shapes in our house. When I received those to review Andrew was on the younger side of two years old. We played with the shapes for a half an hour and it was amazing. Andrew was able to identify and say the name of each shape, he was also able to point out the correct color of each shape and he selected the correct shape when asked during game play. He started slowly but picked it up so quickly. Now Tiggly has a new product called Tiggly Counts and it si the first 1Pad compatible physical math toy for children. I can’t wait to see what Andrew does with this one.

And, just for readers of this blog Tiggly is also offering a special 30 percent off code on pre-orders of Tiggly Counts. Starting October 7th through October 31, your readers can save by entering PREORDER30 at checkout on Tiggly.com/counts.

App Review: Dinosaur Train: Classic in the Jurassic, Jr.

Classic in the Jurassic, JR.

We received a download code to try out and review this game from PBS kids. There are three games in this Classic in the Jurassic Jr. app. There is Bridge Building (Addition), All-Star Sorting (sorting) and Chow Time (comparing). The games are pretty simple and so are good for younger children. By playing each game three times your child earns a sticker that they can use in the digital stickerbook portion of the app. In all it is a simple app and I’m not sure if it will keep the attention of older kids but little ones (3-5) should be entertained and challenged for a little while. Here is a further explanation of the app.

DINOSAUR TRAIN Classic in the Jurassic, Jr.!: $1.99; iPad

In this app, based on the hit PBS KIDS science-focused series, DINOSAUR TRAIN, kids play through three math-based games focused on sorting, balance and counting to help Gilbert get Troodon Town ready for the big event – the Classic in the Jurassic, Jr games!
Games:

  • Bridge Builder: Help build bridges so the dinosaurs can get around Troodon Town! Drag your finger to measure the distance between two points, then choose the two sets of logs that equal the right length to complete the bridge.
  • Chow Time: The dinosaurs are hungry! Add food to the scale until it’s balanced. When you’ve got it right, watch them chow down!
  • All-Star Sorting: Put the dinosaurs in order by height. When you’ve got them in the right order, drag them to the house they belong to!

In addition to playing the app, kids can continue the Classic in the Jurassic, Jr adventures with seven free math games online at http://pbskids.org/dinosaurtrain/games/classic.html The apps were developed as part of the Ready To Learn Initiative, an early learning project of PBS KIDS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
