Splatoon 2 Review / Preview with Gameplay

Splatoon 2
Photo-A-Day #4481

I received an advanced download code for Splatoon 2. The game gets released tomorrow and I wanted to give you a preview of some of the gameplay and mechanics of the game. I’ve really been looking forward to this game because it was a family favorite of ours. This was a game that Andrew picked up so quickly and he beat me often. He’s very excited to get a chance to play Splatoon 2. He loves playing Turf War with other people and that is one of my favorite play modes as well. Although, I am enjoying the single player mode as well. In the single player mode you are looking for clues to find the missing Callie. Marie is the one who helps guide you through those levels. I do enjoy this very much.

There are a ton of new things in teh game and after you check out the video I’ll tell you all about them.

Get hyped for the sequel to the hit game about splatting ink and claiming turf, as the squid-like Inklings return in a colorful and chaotic action shooter. For the first time, take the game’s various single- and multiplayer modes on the go via local multiplayer in portable play styles. (Additional games and systems required for multiplayer mode; sold separately.) You can also compete in frenetic online* matches like never before with the new SplatNet 2 mobile service (Nintendo Account, persistent internet access and compatible mobile device required. Data charges may apply.) SplatNet 2, which allows players to see Splatoon 2 stats and stage schedules, is part of the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app. With the Nintendo Switch Online app, players can get together with their squid squad and chat during certain online modes. Splatoon 2 will be available on July 21.

I have yet to go and download Nintendo Switch Online which gives you access to SplatNet 2. This service is specific to Splatoon 2 and lets you stay in touch with what is happening in Inkopolis even when you are not around to do so. You can see stage schedules, gear and stats. SplatNet 2 even lets you view your lifetime inkage, a feature that shows how much turf you have inked compared to real-world places. With Nintendo Switch Online, you can invite other players to join Private Battles, League Battles, Salmon Run and Splatfest Battles in Splatoon 2, as well as communicate with those players using voice chat. This service will be free until the paid service launches in 2018. You can access the online services if you have a Nintendo Account.

With Splatoon 2 there are all new Main Weapon Classes. They are:

  • Shooters – all-around weapon class; also includes sub-class known as Blasters
  • Rollers – beginner friendly, easy to ink; extra-dangerous in veteran hands; jump and press ZR to fling ink further; includes sub class of Brushes
  • Chargers – long-range, great for sniping; can store charge while swimming in ink
  • Sloshers – literally just a bucket, but can attack elevated positions behind walls
  • Splatlings – compress ink, then unleash a huge stream of ink from its cannon. Uses a huge amount of ink, and charging it leaves you exposed for a while, so play smart
  • Dualies – new type; great for close encounters; only class that can perform dodge-roll maneuver
  • Brellas* – new umbrella-shaped weapons, charge to create shield; hold ZR to launch forward
*Note: will be released post-launch for use in multiplayer battles

Even more information was supplied through a press release from Nintendo about the Nintendo Direct on July 6, 2017. Continue reading Splatoon 2 Review / Preview with Gameplay
