Review: DINOSAUR TRAIN “Dinosaur Big City” Screening Party

Today we hosted a special Dinosaur Train movie screening at our house. I connected with the folks at PBS Kids while at the EVO ’11 conference and because of that I’ll be doing some special reviews and posting some great info about PBS Kids on the blog. This is perfect because Eva is a huge fan of PBS Kids and the great programming that they have. Dinosaur Train is one of those terrific shows that is on PBS Kids. It is about a family of Pteradons and their adopted T-Rex son, Buddy. They go on some fun adventures through the many different time periods of prehistory. They get to the different time periods through a special train that goes through time tunnels. There is even a lesson about real dinosaurs at the end of each episode. Trains and dinos, ow can you go wrong with the hearts of kids everywhere. Well, the show was a hit and it is back for a second season starting Monday August 22. We were lucky enough to get a special DVD of a bunch of upcoming episodes including the big movie “Dinosaur Big City”.

Sid The Science Kid

4 months and no update, man I am sorry about that. I have no one to blame but myself for not updating. I’ll be updating this site more. I have some ideas that I’ve been toying with and so you will see more content here, not every day however but I’ll try for no more 4 month gaps in the writing.

Eva is now interested in TV shows and one of her favorites and mine actually is Sid the Science Kid on PBS Kids.

The basic format of the show. We see Sid observe something and ask a question about it. It can be why breathing is important, how does your stomach break down food or where does the wind come from. Sid is a colorful show with a very predicative format.

  • Sid asks a question
  • Sid and his Mom or Dad explore that question a bit
  • Sid goes to School
  • Sid is looking for his friends
  • Sid polls his friends about his question.
  • Teacher Suzy is prepared to talk about the question that Sid has that day
(She’s an awesome teacher who can whip out lesson plans at a moment’s notice.)
  • The kids experiment on that question
  • Sid goes home with his Grandma
  • Sid talks with his family
  • Sid gives you his ooper-dooper-schmoorper-Big-Idea at the end of the show.

I love this show, I love singing along with the repetitive parts and I like how intelligent this show treats that kids. They explore the questions that Sid has and kids are full of questions so I can see why this is popular.
