Taking (Remote) Control

Taking (Remote) Control

Take a look at that entertainment center and everything around it. Do you think my life might just be cluttered enough without having to mess with a couple of remotes just to turn on and watch the TV?

We’ve got our cable, DVD/VCR/Receiver and TV over there and that means multiple remote controls. Every time we leave the house we have to write detailed instructions to the babysitter just so they can watch TV. Don’t even get me started on how we explain the use of the DVD player or VCR. We’ve even just turned the TV on for the babysitter and told them, you can use these 4 buttons to control volume and channel changing and that is it. Play with the Wii? That is not going to happen unless we are home to set it up for the sitter. So you can see that we have a bit of a problem.

We only have two remotes too. Why, because I can went and programmed the remotes to work with our various peripherals but there are limitations because not every remote is compatible with the other remotes. So we have the remote for the DVD/CD/Receiver and a remote for the cable. But for some reason the Cable remote cannot be programmed to work with the DVD/VCR/Receiver and I’ve tried, many, many times using all the codes in the book not just the ones for the manufacturer.

To watch TV we need to turn on the TV itself on the remote for the DVD/VCR/Receiver and to actually get picture we have to use the Cable remote. But then switch back to the DVD/VCR/Receiver remote to change the volume. Back over to the cable remote to change channels. As you can see that is a bit tedious. We still do it but it is a pain.

I’ve been hearing about this new device from Yamaha. I read about it in a post on Forever Geek and also on OhGizmo. Those guys were actually give a neoHD to test out in their homes. From what I’ve seen on the Yamaha neoHD site and on those blogs they were really lucky folks to get their hands on one.

The Yamaha neoHD connects to all of these devices like the TV, Stereo, Cable, DVD, Blu-Ray, Wii, PS2, PS3, iPod and many others. Then instead of using multiple remotes to change channels and change volume, which is pretty annoying especially when the remotes tend to find their way to opposite ends of the couch from where I’m sitting. the Yamaha neoHD simplifies everything with one super simple remote and an on screen interface. Users are asked whether they want to Watch, Listen or Play on the TV screen.

Let’s suppose that the user wants to watch a movie. they click watch and there they have options for watching movies, Live TV, a photo slide show and much more, it all depends upon what devices are connected to the neoHD. Connecting the devices and their remotes is so much easier than things are now. You don’t have to mess around with codes at all because the Yamaha neoHD has most of the device codes already embedded and so you attach the device and most times it is ready to roll.

Before you go thinking that I am talking about just some cheap universal remote control let me set you straight. The neoHD also comes with a state of the art device that connects to your TV via HDMI and to which you connect all of your other devices. Then You use a simplified remote control to select what you want to do. I thought it was going to be this super complicated thing with tons of buttons but no it has very few. You use that remote to control the onscreen display to use all of your connected devices. On top of that two speakers and a subwoofer also come with the basic model. The speakers use Yamaha’s Air Surround Xtreme System and for most people you wouldn’t even notice that your surround sound is coming from two speakers and a subwoofer. But for you audiophiles who have the need for 5.1 surround sound you can purchase a neoHD version with the speakers you crave. From what I have seen and read it looks like an amazing product one that you might be able to find out more about for yourself.

You can enter the Yamaha neoHD Sweepstakes Entry and possibly tweet your way to a new gadget for your home theater that will eliminate the clutter on your coffee table and let that babysitter watch TV without messing up any shows that you wanted to tape on the VCR? Oh wait, that is right we now have a DVR and we won’t be missing our shows ever again from VCR programming failure, although I bet that gets more simplified with the neoHD too.

So how do you enter? You can enter by Tweeting: “I just entered to win a #neoHD b/c I have too many remotes, visit (http://urlbrief.com/e44caa) to enter” and you can also go to the link in that tweet http://urlbrief.com/e44caa on that post you should leave a comment on why you desperately need the neoHD to save you from the pile of remotes you have in your home. Leave one here too – it isn’t part of the contest, I’m just curious – but I would like to know how many remotes it takes for you to watch TV. If you’d like to find out more about what people are saying about he neoHD you can find neoHD on facebook too.
