ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Have Landed In Theaters!

Scott Lang Hope Van Dyne Hank Pym

I was scanning Instagram yesterday and saw the very last thing of the ANT-MAN AND THE WASP movie and so I had to get to the theater before any other spoilers headed my way. So, I hopped on Fandango and grabbed a ticket for the 6:20pm show that night. I contacted my boss and said I was using some personal time at the last minute and got to the theater. Many times when I see movies I go first thing in the morning so I can watch the movie and sleep and then go to work. Yesterday, however, we were coming back from the Cape and I didn’t think I could catch the movie, but I did. I’m glad that I did. The movie was a great sequel and so much fun. Seeing it with a bunch of other people who were into it and laughing made it better.

Before you see the movie check out this featurette. There are no spoilers in it, I assure you. Then I’ll tell you a bit more about the movie and what I thought.

“Powers” featurette:

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is directed by Peyton Reed and stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Tip “T.I.” Harris, David Dastmalchian, Hannah John Kamen, Abby Ryder-Fortson, Randall Park, with Michelle Pfeiffer, with Laurence Fishburne and Michael Douglas. Last Monday I went to see ANT-MAN with my friend Brian from Built From Bricks. I like hanging out with Brian, we like so much of the same stuff so we had tons to talk about on the way up and back to Boston. I had been invited to a Press Screening for the movie and was able to take someone with me. This was Brian’s first one and it was very cool to take someone on their first press screening. It is all still a bit new for me, too.

The movie is a very funny one. Paul Rudd gives a great performance as Scott Lang, a crook with a conscience who is trying to change his life to be a better father to his daughter, Cassie. Through a series of events he crosses paths with Hank Pym, the original ANT-MAN (not a spoiler, pick up a Marvel comic sometime) and Hank has a job for Scott. What follows is a heist movie with all the Marvel flair. Scott has an ANT-tourage of friends who help him steal a very special suit from the bad guy in this one, Darren Cross. Cross was a protege of Pym’s who pursued the formula for Pym Particles that Hank hid away years ago because of the possible dangers.

I enjoyed Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly as Hope, his daughter. I wasn’t loving the haircut, though. The interaction between Scott and Hope was fun and complete with a will they, won’t they sort of tension. One of the best characters was played by Michael Pena. His character, Luis is a fast talking guy with a mean right hook, he has some of the funnier lines in the movie. The final battle is a riot with a rooftop fight on a Thomas the Tank Engine set.

Make sure that you stay through to the end of the movie for two special “Stingers”. Yes, there are two this time. I feel that we were cheated out of one on Avengers and am glad that they are back for this movie. I can’t wait to see it again.

As a bonus, I have this adorable, Little Ant-Man video for you to watch. and a .PDF of ANT-MAN activities for you as well.
