Top 10 Picks of 2017 on Netflix #StreamTeam

NYE 2018 Countdowns

Before we get to the end of the year, I think it is time to reflect. Reflect on your bingeing. Do you ever wonder how much Netflix you watch in a year? Do you even want to know? I found out in preparation for my top 10 list for 2017. The top 10 things that I watched on Netflix this year. If you ever want to see your activity for a year and beyon you have to sign in to Netflix online and then go to your account, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on viewing activity. Then you’ll get a huge list of all the things that you watched and the dates that you watched them. Doing this made it really easy for e to determine what I watched this year and what I liked most. So, without another moment before the year slips away here are the top ten things I watched on Netflix in 2017.

#10 – House of Cards – I had never watched the show prior to this year and once I started I ended up watching all of the seasons. The show was a very well acted one and I wonder what will happen with Season 6.

6/3/17 – House of Cards: Season 1: “Chapter 1”

#9 – Hell on Wheels – This is another show that I had not watched when it first aired but was completely consumed by it once I started watching. I really enjoyed this show and started watching it because Anson Mount, the main actor was going to play Black Bolt on Marvel’s Inhumans.

3/4/17 – Hell on Wheels: Season 1: “Pilot”

#8 – Marvel’s Iron Fist – Speaking of Marvel I have to mention Iron Fist. While many people did not like this show I enjoyed it. It was certainly the least favorite of the Marvel shows that I watched but I still enjoyed it.

3/18/17 – Marvel’s Iron Fist: Season 1: “Snow Gives Way”

#7 – Sense8 – Season 2 – I thoroughly enjoyed season one of this show and while season two was not as good it was still really well done. I was sad to hear that it was cancelled but happy to hear that there will be a movie that wraps things up for the fans.

5/6/17 – Sense8: Season 2: “Who Am I?”

#6 – Longmire – Season 6 – Another show that was cancelled was Longmire but Netflix let the show finish up and tell the complete story. Netflix was also the reason that there were seasons beyond season 3. Netflix picked up the show and produced three additional seasons that were excellent. This was one of my most favorite shows on Netflix.

11/17/17 – Longmire: Season 6: “The Eagle and the Osprey”

#5 – Marvel’s The Punisher – This series was released on the same day that Longmire was and I gave that first weekend to Walt and his deputies. But, the next weekend was all about Frank Castle and his revenge story. This was a gritty, violent show that explored the darker side of the Marvel universe. It was well done. I have been a fan of The Punisher in this form ever since he showed up in Daredevil Season 2. A Quick Tie with this one was Marvel’s The Defenders. It would have been higher had The Punisher appeared at all in it.

11/26/17 – Marvel’s The Punisher: Season 1: “3AM”
8/18/17 – Marvel’s The Defenders: Limited Series: “The H Word”

#4 – Ozark – It took me a while before I gave this show a shot but once I did it grabbed me and sucked me right in. This show starring, and often directed by, Jason Bateman is about a money launderer who has to move to the Ozarks to launder cash for a drug cartel or they will kill his entire family.

11/5/17 – Ozark: Season 1: “Sugarwood”

#3 Stranger Things – Season 2 – The 80’s nostalgia was retched up in this season with the addition of Sean Astin and Paul Reiser. It was also really fun and suspenseful and scary at times. The kids are older, more is happening and The upside down has even more horrors in store for the kids of Hawkins. I cannot wait to see where they go from here.

10/27/17 – Stranger Things: Stranger Things 2: “Chapter One: MADMAX”

#2 Trollhunters – Season 2 – Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters is just the beginning. This year we learned that Trollhunters will be part of a trilogy of shows under the collective umbrella of Tales of Arcadia. Arcadia is the town where Trollhunters takes place but it is also home to wizards and aliens. Lots of weird things happen in Arcadia. This second season was shoter than the first but it was still full of great heart. I was so excited to see it that I did not wait for the kids.

12/15/17 – Trollhunters: Part 2: “Escape from the Darklands”

#1 Voltron: Legendary Defender – Seasons 2, 3 and 4 – All three of these seasons came out this year. Voltron my favorite show on Netflix and despite there being very short seasons 3 & 4 I still love it. I enjoy where the team has gone with these characters and look forward to seeing where they go next. Exploring the mythos of Voltron has been exciting and the voice cast is top notch!

1/20/17 – Voltron: Legendary Defender: Season 2: “Across the Universe”

There are so many shows to choose from on Netflix. I discovered Riverdale and Shooter this year in time for the second seasons of both shows to release on their respective networks. I watched as much comedy as I could and there were some excellent specials as well as season 2 of Master of None and season 1 of both Atypical and GLOW. I even got to watch all seasons of The IT Crowd and it was hilarious. I like cartoons and thanks to Netflix I was able to watch all of Slugterra, Skylanders Academy and Dragons: Race to the Edge. I’ve even been working through a series that I found years ago called Merlin. Most recently, however I watched the movies about Ip Man starring Donnie Yen. They have amazing martial arts fights in them. Thee is something for every viewer on Netflix and I am excited to see what will be released in 2018. Don’t forget that there will be special countdowns happening again this year on Netflix. You can play them early for the kids and send them off to bed. Fan favorites like Trollhunters, Skylanders Academy, Larva, True and Rainbow Kingdom and more are available starting December 26 on Netflix.com/Kids.
