Cookie Batter Brownies and Peanut Butter Hearts

Valentine’s Day Traditions and a Special Giveaway

Evas First Valentines Day

I’m working with our friends over at CATHOLIC CENTRAL to do a special Saint Valentine’s Day giveaway and share with you our Saint Valentine’s Day traditions. Opinions are our own.

In our house food is love. It just is. I was looking back over our Valentine’s day posts from the past 16 years of this blog and the majority of the posts came back with posts about food. We love to bake for each other and make special meals, That could mean Heart Shaped Cheeseburger Pockets to Brownies with special heart candies inside. Back when Eva was 3 years old she and Allison surprised me with Valentine’s Day cookies that were shaped like teddy bears. Eva did some wicked decorating on them, too.

Our Family - First Valentines Day

For this Valentine’s Day I picked up a special brownie mix, some Valentine’s Day M&Ms and some Reese’s peanut butter hearts. I made the brownies and cut them so that they looked like a heart shape. Okay so maybe I just sampled a corner and when I turned the plate it came up as a heart shape.

Made a Heart Shape

I’ve been asked by Catholic Central to write about some of the most romantic things that we have done in our family. But honestly, my wife’s favorite saying is “Ah, the romance…” We just aren’t that romantic. We don’t watch those over the top romantic movies or do much that is romantic. We do nice things for each other and much of what we say about love we say through food. Catholic Central has actually provided us with a downloadable PDF called “10 Tips To Rock St. Valentine’s At home”. In it there are some very nice activities and also some details about what Saint Valentine’s Day is all about. They have also provided me with a special kit to give away. Want to see what is inside, then check out this video below.

First, download the “10 Tips To Rock St. Valentine’s At home” by clicking the image below and after that enter to win the Valentine’s Day kit.

  1. I guess watching a romantic movie? My husband once wrote me a poem that was pretty romantic back when we were dating.

  2. April 5th will mark our 50th wedding anniversary – so we have had a lot of Valentine’s Days together. We sneak in little treats throughout the day. With my husband’s coffee this morning he received a large Reece’s peanut butter heart with a sticky note. The game is afoot!

  3. The most I’ve ever done was a surprise picnic, but usually just a homemade dinner and flowers.

  4. I’m a single mom and spent Valentine’s Day with my 5yo daughter, so “romantic” isn’t really the word I’d use. We watched a Chipmunks movie and ate popcorn 😀

  5. If it’s cold out, and it was this year, my husband and I have a picnic in front of the fireplace.

  6. I would like just going for a walk in the park holding hands like we use to do. Sharing a milkshake and spending the rest of the day and evening together.

  7. I cook an extra special dinner that I normally wouldn’t. This year was steak, shrimp, baked potato and molten lava cake with gelato for dessert.

  8. I make my hubby a homemade sweet treat and we always have a nice dinner out in a restaurant that we only visit on special occasions.

  9. The most romantic thing we do for Valentine’s Day is to just make time for each other. We’ve been married 23 years and have almost always worked opposite shifts so the best thing we do is to make time to spend with each other.

  10. We always cook out on the weekend, if Valentine’s Day is during the week. We also have Godiva Chocolate Martinis for dessert. They are so good!

  11. Well I am a single mom but when I was married and with someone we always went to this local steakhouse for Valentine and for anniversary but that is about it.

  12. We like to go out for dinner and my sweetie usually brings me chocolates and flowers. Thanks!

  13. Tattoos with my wife of my sons first drawing and then dinner at a nice Providence restaurant.

  14. I have five kids so there isn’t much time for romance any day of the year the most romantic it gets is me and hubby snuggled up watching a movie in bed and usually there’s a kid in bed with us thank you for sharing and for the opportunity

  15. The most romantic thing I did on Valentine’s Day was to leave a chocolate on my love’s pillow.
