When you need a Linchpin

Photo-A-Day #1853

Things around work have certainly started picking up in a good way. A while back I mentioned that I would be taking on more duties as the person who did the video production. Well, the guy who had the job before me retired last week and this week I received a bunch of requests for videos aready. Next week I’ll be taking videos of some important customers. I’m also being asked to shoot more video items of our top executives. On my way to being what Seth Godin refers to as a Linchpin (Aff Link). I’m reading that book right now on my Kindle (Aff Link).

Tonight I was able to help out with something really fun. My company does these nights of lectures called Night Bytes. They can be anything from astrophysics to setting up a home wireless network. Tonight we are doing a sort of Iron Chef event. Three teams are cooking in our cafeteria. We have the security cameras feeding the action to a big screen TV and I’m roving around with a computer on wheels with my webcam attached to get a more up close look at the action. I also brought along my flip and my Nikon D80 so I could do a little extra. Somethig a Linchpin certainly would do.

Today I also recorded episode 14 of Geek Dads Weekly with Daniel M. Clark and Joe Magennis. In it we talk about last night’s episode of LOST. Or rather, we don’t. Daniel didn’t get a chance to see it so we did not spoil it for him. Instead Joe and I talked about how spoilers can really ruin your enjoyment of a show especially when you don’t go looking for them but they come find you. We also talked about the inappropriateness of movies like The Little Mermaid and introducing your daughter to Transformers a little too soon. Then we talk abot the upcoming conference season. Both Daniel and I are parts of panels that have proposals in for Affiliate Summit. Daniel along with Trisha Lyn Fawver and Tricia Meyer called Podcasting 101. So, while you are over voting for my panel: Bloggers Successfully Connecting with Audiences and Advertisers with Murray Newlands, Kristopher Jones, Tim Jones and Eric Schechter I’d hope you’d vote for Daniel, Trisha and Tricia. I certainly want to see their panel. There are many more panels that I would love to see at the conference and I will be doing a post about that in the very near future.

Yesterday I hinted at doing a Big Ask. Well, I will also have some other big news coming very, very soon and once I can I will annouce it. I am very excited.

What I am also very excited about is that Tara and Erik are getting another dog. Two years ago I met General at Strut Your Mutt. I really wanted to adopt General because he needed a home and he was so sweet. He needs some fattening up. So, Tara is taking him in to get him back into shape. And we can help out with his care. I mean, how can you say no to this face?

General

  1. Ahhh! Stop suckering me with cute dogs- the 3 I have just ripped my hand trying to fight over a toy.

    1. Dina,
Believe me, I was very close to bringing him home years ago. Just couldn’t do it. Now he will be next door and I can walk him and spend time with him. I’m very excited.

  2. Is that General then or now? I think your sister is on a mission to save the world, one dog at a time.

    1. Dad,

That picture is of General then. He’s a lot skinnier now, Tara needs to bulk him up a bit.
