Why I Held My Own Toy Car Show

Photo-A-Day #3862

Captain America Car from Hot Wheels

This past week was SEMA 2015, the Aftermarket and Specialty Parts show was held in Las Vegas this week. It is still going on. I saw a few friends there having a great time checking out all the amazing cars and taking great photos. Well, I wasn’t there. So what is a Toy Blogger to do? And by toys that does mean Big Boy Toys. I thought about the past car shows that I’ve attended. The Back in 2011 I attended the North American International Auto Show and more recently, this past June, an auto show at Bass Pro Shops where Eva and I did a father and daughter photowalk around the place. No shows were happening in my area so I decided to use my photography skills to highlight the autos that I had on hand, or rather, in hand. I decided to post a Toy Car Show spotlighting a bunch of different toy cars I had around the house.

I recently went on a trip to Disney for the IZEAFest 2015 conference. I bought a day ticket to Epcot and while I was there I saw some fun Disney Racers that I knew I had to collect. I picked up Stitch, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and BB-8 from the upcoming Star Wars movie. I liked how Stitch and Buzz photographed. I was using my Samsung NX500 with the 60mm Macro lens, Tripod and natural light outside. I also have a rotating light up display that shows in some images. You can check out all the rest of my Toy Car Show images below.

There are quite a few Disney Racers and I believe that if I dig back through some boxes I may even have these two already from past trips. I know that I have a Mikcey, Goofy and more. I should go look and find them.

Hot Wheels forms the majority of my toy car collection. And When I say my toy collection, I really mean the kid’s collection that I end up playing with and increasing in size. When Andrew is good at the Supermarket and we can find a purple car then he gets one. For $1 they are perfect small treats for the kids. He’s also very thoughtful in that he picks one out for his sister as well. The purple truck is Andrew’s and the Blue Muscle car is Eva’s.

The latest Skylanders game, Skylanders SuperChargers features vehicles and one of my favorites is Hot Streak. This is the Dark Edition version of the toy and when I shot it I liked how the wheels looked like they were actually in motion.

I’ve collected Transformers for the past 30+ years. Now the kids are into them. We received this Blur car from Hasbro as part of the #PlayLikeHasbro campaign that I work on. I liked the colors of the car and wanted to feature some of my Transformers in the Toy Car Show.

One of the coolest car toys that I have ever played with are Modarri. I have backed them on Kickstarter, received a ton of them for review and written so much about them over the past couple of years. They are fun and interactive beyond driving them. You can really drive them with your thumb and forefinger because they have independent suspension and real rubber tires. The cars are also modular and you can take apart the entire thing, mix and match with other Modarri cars and have a great time with the kids.

So that is my Toy Car Show. I figure that if I can make a bunch of fun toy cars look good in photographs then I would be able to make real big boy toy cars look great as well. They is always next year or plenty of other car shows to attend in the future.
