Review: Block Chain – Linked Brainteaser Cubes- From ThinkFun

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #00719

ThinkFun sent us an early sample of their latest Brain Teaser, Block Chain, for free to check out and review. Opinions are our own.

The Block Chain™ Brainteaser game from ThinkFun is a rather interesting one. We selected their Pirates themed set. There will also be unicorns and robot themed sets. Inside the package are three cubes, each made of three 4 paneled cubes that are moved and manipulated around to show something specific. Each cube has a different solution. The easiest cube is the first one where you either show a treasure chest or what is inside the treasure chest. The next and more challenging cube has you solve by having six different colors and six different symbols showing for a correct solution. The final cube is the hardest and the one I have not been able to solve… yet. This cube has a maze on it like a treasure map with 4 different trails of varying colors. You must solve the cube and have every trail connected to the correct colors.

Each cube is made of a heavy duty flexible plastic so there is some give as you are manipulating the cubes. You’re also going to be moving the cubes around over and over and they need to remain durable.

Block Chain Brainteaser

This is the simplest Block Chain™ puzzle. You need to either show the treasure chest of the treasure inside.

simplest puzzle

The Level Two puzzle must show all 6 colors and six different symbols.

Level Two puzzle

The Most Difficult Puzzle has four paths of varying colors. All paths must connect correctly. This is not solved. I am only able to get 3 of the six sides at a time so far.

Andy and I both tried these out and had a good time solving the puzzles. Andy has been solving a simple puzzle all Summer on Cape Cod so I thought he could stand to have something more challenging to try and solve. I think we have a winner because he has not solved any yet and that has just driven him to try again and again. He knows that there is a solution and that he can find it, eventually.

These are not available yet. They release in Early February. Be sure to check out the ThinkFun website for more information as we get closer to release date.

Review: Lumibricks Izakaya Building ...

The folks from Lumibricks sent me their latest building set, the Izakaya for free to build and review. Opinions are 100% my own. I've built a few sets from Lumibricks (formerly FunWhole) in the past and they are really fun and interesting. The photo above is of the Izakaya and also The Apartment. they are both part of a Cyberpunk theme called Neoncity. At this time there are also two additional buildings that you can build and add to this whole theme, the Game Stack and the Floating Train Station. The great things about these sets is that they light up. As you build you are also adding lights and wires and ways to illuminate the amazing build. Once you're done building you fire up some power and the lights blaze up. With Neoncity sets you get some incredible Nenon effects light signs and even neon tube lights. That is one of the coolest things about these sets is how the lights are incorporated into the build. Some very innovative bricks were made in order to thread the wiring...

Christmas Tree Is Up ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02510 Yesterday we put up the trees and today we decided to decorate the tree after dinner. Our tree is now mostly our family photo ornaments. We have a bunch of ornaments but with over 20 years of family photo ornaments it look like the predominant ornament type that we'll see. We did get a 2025 Hallmark one as well and I have to select this year's photo.

2025 Family Ornament ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02515 We put our tree up the other day and I had already bought the 2025 Hallmark Keepsake ornament for our yearly family photo ornament. I love these ornaments on the tree. We have them from 2005 to now.
