Review: City of Dragons: The Awakening Storm

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #00951

We received a copy of City of Dragons: The Awakening Storm for free to read and review. Opinions are our own.

When we received this book I gave it to Andy to read. I’m always looking for new and interesting things for Andy. He’s more of a reluctant reader and because of that he doesn’t often pick up a book on his own to read. He does enjoy comics and graphic novels, though. He also enjoys fantasy and dragons so this was a great graphic novel for him to start reading. He completed the book in a day and really enjoyed it.

When he was finished I took up the book and read it. I enjoyed the overall story and the characters. This is also the first book in a new series and it sets up the subsequent books very well. there is plenty of mystery, humor and heart in the book, too. Plus, did I mention Dragons! Our main character, Grace is a strong female character who suffers a major loss in her life. A few years later she moves to Hong Kong. there she meets new friends Ramesh, James and Jing. The group helps Grace and her dragon in a huge adventure. the book will be released on September 21, 2021 and you can pre-order it right now.

More about the book below.

Grace and her friends must protect a newly hatched dragon from mysterious evildoers. When Grace moves to Hong Kong with her mom and new stepdad, her biggest concern is making friends at her fancy new boarding school. But when a mysterious old woman gifts her a dragon egg during a field trip, Grace discovers that the wonderful stories of dragons she heard when she was a young girl might actually be real–especially when the egg hatches overnight.

The dragon has immense powers that Grace has yet to understand. And that puts them both in danger from mysterious forces intent on abusing the dragon’s power. And now it’s up to Grace and her school friends to uncover the sinister plot threatening the entire city!

Review: Lumibricks Izakaya Building ...

The folks from Lumibricks sent me their latest building set, the Izakaya for free to build and review. Opinions are 100% my own. I've built a few sets from Lumibricks (formerly FunWhole) in the past and they are really fun and interesting. The photo above is of the Izakaya and also The Apartment. they are both part of a Cyberpunk theme called Neoncity. At this time there are also two additional buildings that you can build and add to this whole theme, the Game Stack and the Floating Train Station. The great things about these sets is that they light up. As you build you are also adding lights and wires and ways to illuminate the amazing build. Once you're done building you fire up some power and the lights blaze up. With Neoncity sets you get some incredible Nenon effects light signs and even neon tube lights. That is one of the coolest things about these sets is how the lights are incorporated into the build. Some very innovative bricks were made in order to thread the wiring...

Christmas Tree Is Up ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02510 Yesterday we put up the trees and today we decided to decorate the tree after dinner. Our tree is now mostly our family photo ornaments. We have a bunch of ornaments but with over 20 years of family photo ornaments it look like the predominant ornament type that we'll see. We did get a 2025 Hallmark one as well and I have to select this year's photo.

2025 Family Ornament ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02515 We put our tree up the other day and I had already bought the 2025 Hallmark Keepsake ornament for our yearly family photo ornament. I love these ornaments on the tree. We have them from 2005 to now.
