A New School Year Begins

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #01700

today was the first day of school for Allison and Andy. This was also the first time any of the kids were in a public school. This will be a whole new experience for us this year. While it will be different Andy is quite excited for the change. This year Andy will be taking band and starting to learn the trombone. Andy will have gym a couple of times a week and they have the option of free school lunches each day.

Allison is back to school today with the kids this week. her school has half days for the next few days and Friday and Monday off. Andy has 3 full days of school and is getting right into it.

I picked Andy up from school today, Allison and I had dropped Andy off together. When Andy got out of the car they saw a kid from karate that recognized Andy. So, it was nice that Andy was greeted almost immediately. We learned that there are a few kids that Andy knows from karate. This is nice to know and will help ease the transition a bit.

While Allison and Andy were at school Eva was home and I was home working with Dad. We were unsuccessful at clearing the blockage in the pipes yesterday. So, today Dad picked up the largest size snake that they had at Home Depot and we muscled it down the cellar to get it to probe the 33 feet of pipe in hopes that it would find the blockage.

We had it running from the washing machine area cleanout to the house trap and it took a long time for it to feed through. However, there was no resistance the whole time. The auger claw came out at the end of the house trap almost as clean as it went in. Nothing came out before it. So, we ran a hose through the line and moved the snake back and the forward and back again a few times. That ultimately cleared the blockage. It was horrifyingly nasty when it came through.

We got it done and I had time to go pick up Andy from school. I’m going to have to get used to the pickup line. I’m not a fan and I ended up pulling too close to the curb and scraping the heck out of my wheels. that annoyed me the most. It is okay because Andy had a very good day and I was glad to hear all about it on the way home.

Review: Lumibricks Izakaya Building ...

The folks from Lumibricks sent me their latest building set, the Izakaya for free to build and review. Opinions are 100% my own. I've built a few sets from Lumibricks (formerly FunWhole) in the past and they are really fun and interesting. The photo above is of the Izakaya and also The Apartment. they are both part of a Cyberpunk theme called Neoncity. At this time there are also two additional buildings that you can build and add to this whole theme, the Game Stack and the Floating Train Station. The great things about these sets is that they light up. As you build you are also adding lights and wires and ways to illuminate the amazing build. Once you're done building you fire up some power and the lights blaze up. With Neoncity sets you get some incredible Nenon effects light signs and even neon tube lights. That is one of the coolest things about these sets is how the lights are incorporated into the build. Some very innovative bricks were made in order to thread the wiring...

Christmas Tree Is Up ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02510 Yesterday we put up the trees and today we decided to decorate the tree after dinner. Our tree is now mostly our family photo ornaments. We have a bunch of ornaments but with over 20 years of family photo ornaments it look like the predominant ornament type that we'll see. We did get a 2025 Hallmark one as well and I have to select this year's photo.

2025 Family Ornament ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02515 We put our tree up the other day and I had already bought the 2025 Hallmark Keepsake ornament for our yearly family photo ornament. I love these ornaments on the tree. We have them from 2005 to now.
