30th College Reunion ...

30th College Reunion

Photo-A-Day #02699

Today was my 30th College Reunion from Saint Anselm College. Allison and I drove up from home in the morning to arrive for the lunch on the open space in front of Joan of Arc Hall. That area had been a parking lot the whole time that I was a student and when I worked at the college. Now it is a almost like a second quad. It is a nice place to hang out. We did run into two of my former classmates but that was it for lunch. We sat with some of the Golden Anselmians. It seemed as if people were only coming for the class dinner tonight.

The Abbey Church

We walked all over campus looking at the new buildings and a lot of the landscaping that has been done over the years to make it look even nicer. It was always a pretty campus but it is even nicer now. We eventually made our way up the hill where we were going to an event called Beers and Benedictines. But first we walked through the Abbey Church. I don't think that Allison had ever been inside before.

Beers and Benedictines

The Beers and Benedictines was a nice event. a couple of the monks gave a talk about the history of brewing at Benedictine monasteries. Saint Anselm des not brew beer at the monastery. One monk had started it but never took formal orders and when he left, so did the beer making.

I had brought my pub mug to have a beer at the pub but when we went to try and get in at 1:30 we were told they were closing for an event even though the schedule said that the pub would be open until 2pm. But I did use my mug at the Beers and Benedictines because they had many samples to let us try along with some hors d'oeuvres.

The Monastery Courtyard

Speaking of hors d'oeuvres we went to another activity called Haustus. This was a small reception inside the inner courtyard of the monastery. This was nice and I got to chat a little with a few of the monks that I knew when I was a student and when I worked at the college.

For dinner we sat with a couple of classmates who were commuters and I completely did not remember one of them and the other I vaguely remembered. But they remembered me. We had a nice dinner and we also found another classmate to eat with us. Like I said earlier it was very sparsely attended by people from my class. We took a group photo and ours was the smallest group.

After dinner we moved over to another table with three women from my class that we had hung out with back in 2022 for the last reunion. I'm figuring that we won't go to the 35th but the 40th instead. It was a nice time but I wish more friend were there.

Review: Lumibricks Izakaya Building ...

The folks from Lumibricks sent me their latest building set, the Izakaya for free to build and review. Opinions are 100% my own. I've built a few sets from Lumibricks (formerly FunWhole) in the past and they are really fun and interesting. The photo above is of the Izakaya and also The Apartment. they are both part of a Cyberpunk theme called Neoncity. At this time there are also two additional buildings that you can build and add to this whole theme, the Game Stack and the Floating Train Station. The great things about these sets is that they light up. As you build you are also adding lights and wires and ways to illuminate the amazing build. Once you're done building you fire up some power and the lights blaze up. With Neoncity sets you get some incredible Nenon effects light signs and even neon tube lights. That is one of the coolest things about these sets is how the lights are incorporated into the build. Some very innovative bricks were made in order to thread the wiring...

2025 Family Ornament ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02515 We put our tree up the other day and I had already bought the 2025 Hallmark Keepsake ornament for our yearly family photo ornament. I love these ornaments on the tree. We have them from 2005 to now.

Christmas Tree Is Up ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02510 Yesterday we put up the trees and today we decided to decorate the tree after dinner. Our tree is now mostly our family photo ornaments. We have a bunch of ornaments but with over 20 years of family photo ornaments it look like the predominant ornament type that we'll see. We did get a 2025 Hallmark one as well and I have to select this year's photo.
