I was at McDonald's before work and I had parked my car and when I came back out there was a white care parked right next to mine and it had a Decepticon sticker on the front and one on the window. I had to laugh because of my Autobot stickers and other items. I sat in the car reading my comics and waited for the driver of the Decepticon car to come back. When he did he looked about my age, wearing a Top Gun t-shirt and I shouted over, "I had to wait to see the Decepticon driver." He looked over and then realized that I had Autobot stickers on my car and laughed.
Today at work we got a new kid that comes in twice a week. My boss and his wife signed up for a program where a local high school student who has special needs comes and works in the store to get some experience while they are evaluated to see if they are able to handle working in a real world scenario. Our last kid had zero personality and needed guidance for everything they did. Nice enough kid but really took a lot to give him something to do for the time that they were there.
The last kid worked 2-6. this kid is working 3:30-7. That put him there during our busiest time. Today was not the best day to have him in and the time between 6pm and 7 is one that can be very busy and stressful. Today was a stressful one because my boss decided that his latest Side Quest (this is what I call his ADHD induced mini obsessions/distractions that happen daily) is to have milkshakes in the store. So he bought a milkshake machine. He did not properly instruct me on how to use said machine.
At 6pm we start our Too Good To Go bags. Too Good To Go is a program where we create a mystery bag for 5 customers who purchase them through an app. We use up prepared items that would be no good to bake the next day. Each time we do this I make 15 pretzels per bag and then a ton of our rivets (pretzel bites) and then whatever is in the case that hasn't yet sold. It is a lot of baking in a very short time.
For the most part our new kid had been working out okay. He's definitely got more personality than the last kid. He's also autistic and has NO filter. My boss likes him immediately and infinitely more than the last kid because he can actually talk with this one and get a response. He even encourage the kid to be himself. Say whatever he likes and only censor himself when there are customers in the store. I think he forgot this a few times.
I also have to mention that there is the owner of the building, Ray. He comes in daily and gets whatever he wants for free because he is the owner. He has that air about him, too. Like he's unconcerned and gets whatever he wants when he wants it. Since he is the landlord my boss gives him whatever he wants for free. Today he wanted a coffee milkshake. My boss was in his car talking to another store owner about making pizzas. His next Side Quest. He's going to be all about pizzas until we have a spinning pizza display crammed into the already overloaded space.
I am in the middle of baking the Too Good To Go orders and our new student is cleaning the mixer. Scraping it and bursting out with random noises as he does so. Lots of random noises. This has put me on edge. I put the shake in the machine and I put way too much milk so it sprays everywhere. The work area that it is on is slanted and so it starts to leak behind it. I'm trying to clean the mess while Ray is laughing, out student is banging away and having random outbursts. Alarms are dinging with the items I am baking and it is nearing the time when people are coming in to get their Too Good To Go bags. My boss is in his car talking pizzas with another owner.
I do the milkshake correctly and give it to Ray. Our student continues to go about his work loudly. I get back to cleaning but the mess is huge. I forgo cleaning it and get the bags ready for people coming in. Finally my boss comes in and I say to him. I am severely overstimulated right now. I point out the mess and let him know that I have to get these orders ready. It all got done and that spot got a deeper cleaning than it has had in a while.
Tonight we watched One Crazy Summer and all I could think wa that my new work bestie was very much like Bobcat Goldthwait's character of egg with the random noises and screaming and utter awkwardness. It is going to be an interesting few weeks with this kid.
As far as the movie, the kids liked it but it was definitely a crazy unhinged movie. a screwball comedy as I explained it. This was the first time I had ever seen it with the subtitles on and so I never knew the names of some of the characters and they are pretty funny. The little sister's name is Squid and the last name is Calamari. Hoops and Frank graduate from Generic High School and Squid went to Generic Elementary school. A detail that my kids pointed out to me.
